Parting Words from Senior Ishaan Desai - 0 views

I think this is news worthy because it has to do with many peoples mutual feeling. It has the human interest quality because it speaks about under privileged kids.
  • Central sucks. I can care less about my classes. There’s no point to school. It’s a waste of my time. Throughout my four years at Central, I have heard these words countless times, resonating with anger and defiance in the hallways. Despite the handful of students who go to class each day with a smile and desire to learn, the overwhelming response is clear: students find little value in the education they receive each day.

This article was newsworthy cause it was directly relating to high school students, and even more specifically, Central students. The qualities it contained were Importance and Impact, being that this relates so directly all high school kids. Human interest/emotion, because of the heart warming ending and the story about the little Honduran girl. Proximity, because it was written by a student who goes to Hunterdon Central. And finally meaning, because it let us know exactly how important school is, and w3hat kind of attitude we should show towards it.
  •
Although I thoroughly enjoyed everything I was doing, my education served no purpose other than meeting the standards of the 'system.' Soon enough, I yearned for a deeper meaning, a more useful application to what I was learning.

This story was interesting to me because I play field hockey and I enjoyed reading about the game. Newsworthy qualities of this story are the timelines, because it happened just over a week ago, and special interest, because it appeals to field hockey players.
  •
In the first game of the season, the Walter Johnson Wildcats (1-0) defeated the varsity field hockey team (0-1) by a score of 7-0. Walter Johnson's cohesiveness and excellent passing skills gave the visitors an edge up and allowed them to dominate for much of the game.

The article is relevant because since we attend a high school who also has this policy, we can relate and understand the pros and cons of this situation. The category that really fits this story, I think, is Human Interest/Emotion considering I'm sure every student would be interested in this topic.
  •
The Blair administration will take part in an initiative to expand cell phone use in school for the upcoming academic year. The program, which was piloted at 10 other Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) last year, allows students to use cell phones before and after the school day, and during their lunch periods.

This story is newsworthy because it has human interest. The story is about a team that didn't win many games but still kept their spirits up throughout the season. This story invokes emotion within the readers and makes them feel for the team. It also has close proximity to its readers because it is about the South varsity lacrosse team and most of the readers probably go to that high school or live near it.
    • Ali M

This story attracted my attention because it is about lacrosse, a sport I used to play. The story kept my attention and was interesting to me because it was uplifting and was about a team that wasn't very good but didn't give up.

This story is newsworthy because it affects all of America and it has a deeper meaning. It qualifies as human interest and importance. It is important to all Americans to mindfull of their money but it is of human interest because it touches people. It asks them to be humbled by it and to appreciate what they have.

Salvaging a declining music scene - 0 views

    • Allie M

This is interesting to me because I am a music lover myself. I have seen the scene declining and its nice to know the reasons for it. Meaning-the scene in flemington could pitter out, forcing bands to stop playing Conflict-so what do we do about this? how do we open more venues? is it really the venues or the people? Human Interest-this is a real heart issue for the kids so used to going to the shows, and having no where to go anymore.
  • In the past, Central has had a strong music scene, one filled with a wide variety of music styles and bands. A lot has changed in the last few years, and the difference, according to some people, is not positive and needs repair. 2008 Central graduate Jeff Hersch was a previous member of the once popular Central group Knockout Theory, and he has many years under his belt as a musician in a fluctuating scene. “The music scene has definitely gotten smaller…and worse,” he said

This is interesting too me because I deal with it so much in my life as a student. In school, they claim it too not be true. Human Interest-a different view Meaning-answers a lot of questions about wiki
  • Over the past decade, Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, has become an invaluable research tool for me, as well as millions of other users worldwide. But many teachers prohibit the use of Wikipedia for their research projects. Frankly, Wikipedia does not deserve its bad reputation. Its potential for vandalism should not discredit its enormous supply of cited, accurate information. To write it off as an “unreliable source” is an insult to the people who volunteer their time to ensure that it is as accurate as possible

This is news worthy because he's a celebrity so people will find this interesting. Also the fact that he's a male wearing female pants, which is a little abnormal.
    • Ryan J

I think it's appropriate for the public because so many people already call him a girl, so it's interesting and valid that he wear women's jeans all the time.
  •
Justin Bieber wears what's comfortable -- it's as simple as that. The pop sensation rocked the red carpet at Dolce & Gabbana's Fashion's Night Out event in New York City, where he spoke about his own fashion choices, including women's jeans.

I think this is interesting because I like movies with disasters in them. This article is newsworthy because it is timely, it has prominence, and it is of special interest to those who like movies like this.
  •
Advanced math and science aren't usually a part of a big Hollywood thriller, particularly one with "Contagion's" cast: not just Winslet and Paltrow but Matt Damon, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne and Marion Cotillard, along with a cameo by CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta. But Burns and director Steven Soderbergh approached the project in an unusually dedicated way.

Young Designers Lead the Way at London Fashion Shows - Fashion Review - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
Mr. Tait and Mr. Kane planted their models on the ground, in sneakers or rubber-soled sandals that matched the outfit. But sporty footwear wasn't the only thing that gave their clothes a sense of urgency. Both designers approached cut and silhouette as if they were problems to be solved. By contrast, many designers at the British spring shows simply offered a polished look, and then decorated it with vivid prints or color. Their ideas weren't empty, but they didn't seem interested in getting below the surface.

People Powered Front Pages Rule | The Whip - 0 views

  •
"What if front pages were selected by newspapers' readers instead of their editors?  At NewsWhip, we're always interested in the news stories people are choosing to share - and how those stories differ from the normal news stories editors put on the front pages of big newspapers. So we ran a little experiment. On Wednesday morning, we gathered the front pages of leading newspapers in several countries. Then we used Spike to check the most shared stories from each one. A little work at our end, and we used those most shared stories to make new "people powered" front pages for each newspaper - giving the most shared story the most prominence, the second most shared the second most prominence, etc. We replaced headlines and pictures, though did not get into replacing story text and bylines. The results are pretty neat - maybe even thought provoking."
