poetry science - 0 views

Two articles address writing in science. The authors of The P.O.E.T.R.Y of Science use the acronym (predict, observe, explain, think, reflect, yearn to learn more) to describe the processes used in student "journals." What they describe as a journal is the same as newer definitions of science notebooks. Whether you call it a notebook or journal, if you require more than just a collection of assignments or a log of events, the rubric in this article can be helpful. In Scientific Journals: A Creative Assessment Tool the authors describe how guide students through the process of integrating science and writing skills. If you're a secondary teacher, these articles are great resources, especially if you have students who are new to the idea of writing in science. Other resources related to science notebooks can be found in a SciLinks blog entry from June 2008.

Small Districts Make a Difference With Blended Learning This webinar will take place on October 5 @ 2:00 p.m., Eastern time Register for this webinar now. Content provided by: According to a recent study by Ambient Insight, the growth of blended learning will be immense in the next four years. Schools and districts across the country are incorporating blended learning across a continuum of models: from having fully online components of courses such as labs or help sessions to posting online resources that support the instruction that occurs entirely in a face-to-face setting. Hear from three district leaders who have successfully implemented blended-learning programs about how they set up an online-learning program that worked for their administration and teachers and helped their students achieve results. Presenters: *Ben Louey, technology integration specialist, Southern York County School District, Penn. *Scott Smith, chief technology officer, Mooresville Graded School District, N.C. *Matt Miller, assistant director of technology, Mead School District, Wash. Moderator: *John Canuel, vice president of education strategy, Blackboard Register for this webinar now.

Renaissance Webquest - 0 views

Blissfield Logo Home Staff Directory View a Calendar Search the site Our DistrictHigh SchoolMiddle SchoolElementary SchoolFoundation Gary Sullivan Profile course outline Absolute Monarchy Webquest Holocaust Webquest Renaissance Web Quest world war I web quest Renaissance Web Quest Overview Your assignment will be to research a Renaissance topic from the list in the Essential Quest(ions) and the Task section, and to develop a project celebrating this most amazing time period in our history. This site will give information about your topic and also link you to other Internet sites related to that topic. Your project will be created with the purpose of presenting the final product to the class. Introduction The word "Renaissance" is French for "rebirth". It is a period of revival of the interest in the values and arts of Greece and Rome during the early 14th century to the late 16th century. This time span and activities during that span led to the golden age of cultural blending and innovation. Because of the Renaissance Western European life was forever changed. Importance of the religious view that was prevalent during previous periods in history changed to a much more worldly outlook of world views during the Renaissance. The intellects who came out of the Renaissance had a growing belief in individual human spirit and abilities. "Humanism" is that focus on the worth of individuals. Essential Quest(ions) and the Task Questions: As you work on your chosen project, be sure to think about the following questions and make the answers evident in your work and your presentation: ü What was the Renaissance all about? ü How did the development of the printing press affect civilization in general, and the lives of people specifically? ü How were the lives of people living during the Renaissance similar to our lives today? How were their lives different? ü What impact did European domination have

Gagliardo's back rub - 0 views

Gagliardo's Back Rub Recipe: Makes approximately 3/4 of a cup The really cool thing about the recipe for this "Back Rub" is that you can modify it to your taste and keep the ratios the same. Not everyone likes the same flavors so I designed this rub so that you can experiment with it and find the combination you like best. I have given you a base of ingredients and alternate options and measurements for a rub that you can use on pork bbq, chicken quarters, ribs and even as a seasoning for a nice mixed green salad. Base Ingredients: 1/4 Cup Kosher Salt 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar 1/8 Cup Granulated Garlic 5 Tablespoons Black Pepper-course ground 1 Tablespoon Ground Coriander 1 Teaspoon Cumin Your Options: Add 1 Tablespoon of your choice of "3" of the following spices: Ground Ancho Chili Pepper Ground California Chili Pepper Ground New Mexico Chili Pepper Ground Chipotle Chili Pepper Cayenne Pepper Ground White Pepper Paprika Ground Coffee File Powder Dried Orange Peel Fennel Place all in a mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand up mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. If mixing by hand mix well with a wire ship until all are incorporated. If using a mixer, which I prefer because it allows you to mix for a longer period of time. Mixing the spices together for at least 10 minutes will start to brake down and bring out any oils in the spices to help the rub to be evenly incorporated. Store in an air tight container for up to two weeks.
