UNESCO is giving a high priority to the use of ICT for more equitable and pluralistic development in education, aiming to: expand the knowledge base about the issues, The broad questions on which UNESCO focuses are: How can one use ICT to accelerate progress towards education for all and throughout life? How can ICT bring about a better balance between equity and excellence in education? How can ICT help reconcile universality and local specificity of knowledge? and How can education prepare individuals and society to benefit from ICT that increasingly permeate all realms of life?

The Flat Classroom™ Conference is a unique limited-seating conference including students and educators to envision the future of education as they use leading technology tools such as wikis, blogs, social networking and multi-media storytelling. The conference is diverse in participation while allowing smaller groups with leading world-class presenters in a "flattened" environment where virtual participants join in the conversation from remote corners of the world. Educators will leave the conference understanding how to collaborate globally and with skills and contacts in hand to start projects. Students will leave the conference with leadership skills, technology skills, presentation skills, and a better understanding of diverse cultures and collaboration.

As part of the evaluation of this project, I interviewed a few students to get their feedback. You have no idea how long it took me to convert the interviews to film and embed them in this blog. Personalisation by Pieces is a secure website which supports three core aspects of 21st century learning * Development of skills and competencies for learners of all ages through gathering and recording of evidence from life in and out of school. * Peer assessment: evidence is peer assessed by learners from other schools all over the world who are developing the same skills. This is anonymous and moderated. All users become learners and assessors. * Mentoring: all learners are given a mentoring role for another learner with structured mentoring meetings and resources on the website. Every user is a mentor and a mentee.

The Assessment and Teaching of 21st-Century Skills (ATC21S) is a research project that proposes ways of assessing 21st-century skills and encourages teaching and adopting those skills in the classroom.

Established in 1998, the Global Nomads Group (GNG) is an international NGO that creates interactive educational programs for students about global issues. GNG's educational programs include (1) four types of videoconferences - The PULSE, Currents, Innovations and Rapid Response - where students learn about and discuss subjects with their peers from around the world in live, facilitated sessions; and (2) videos and learning content on a variety of international issues relevant to teachers and students.
