Has the iPad Peaked in Education? - Edgalaxy - Cool Stuff For Nerdy Teachers - Edgalaxy: Where Education and Technology Meet. - 10 views

  •
"The question I find myself asking now as we look at three year lease programs is has the iPad Peaked in education? Barring a few software tweaks and faster processors is this as good as it gets? The more I speak to others in education and start to look at alternatives I am increasingly seeing that the iPad's future is not as bright as Apple would like to have us think."

iPads at Burley: Back to the Beginning - 6 views

  •
"Even though it's October it still feels very much like the beginning of the year. One of the first thoughts that many teachers have about their students is "they look so little!" It's true. Those tall confident students that left us have gone on to be "little" to next year's teacher and we have our own new crop of "little" people to educate. This becomes even more pronounced in a technology classroom. Everything takes longer, typing, starting, opening, finding, searching. Whatever it is they need time to figure it out. Patience is key. So what can we do?"

The Best Tips For Freeing Up Spare Memory On Your iPad - 26 views

  •
"There's no disputing the fact that iPhones and iPads are very sought after devices, but the price of owning these gadgets can be very costly, especially when Apple charges over $600-$700 for 32GB and 64GB models. So many customers end up getting a 16GB iPad, but what do you do you when start running out of iPad memory space? Or another important question is, do you even need more than 16GB, especially in the era of cloud storage and syncing?"

$10 iPad App Setup | My Hullabaloo - 21 views

  •
"One question I seem to get a lot about the iPad is what apps do I recommend that are free. I am hearing from a lot of teachers that they have no way to add paid apps and thus are stuck trying to find free apps. My experience is that many free apps stink. They have many adds, require in app purchases to be useful, or are just junk. I tend to stay away from most free apps. So what are you to do if the district controls adding paid apps? My suggestion is to build relationships with the decision makers. Don't just ask for a bunch of apps, instead provide documentation and purpose for a few apps you would like to have. I know this process takes time and effort but if you can show the purpose and learning you have a much better chance. If you need lesson ideas I suggest checking out my Pinterest page, and three of my favorite Pinterest pages: iPadsammy, TechChef4u, and Sue Gorman. Look for apps and lesson ideas there and modify them to fit your standards and kids. If I was starting from scratch this is the $10 iPad app setup I would push for in my kindergarten classroom. (I will be posting a $20 setup later)"

The Best Fitness App - 12 views

  •
"It must be said that picking a best fitness app is a bit like comparing toasters to badgers. Different apps, created for different purposes, achieve totally different goals. So we're starting the list with a handful of honorable mentions-apps that were very specific, but great for the purpose they serve. After that, we have just the best all around choices-the all time top five desert island fitness apps."

5 Things To Know About The BYOD Trend | Edudemic - 8 views

  •
"The Bring-Your-Own-Device trend makes sense. It's cost-effective and lets students use the device they already know and love. While it may present some problems for your school or district's IT department, it's a great start to bringing in web 2.0 tools and apps to the classroom."

Transforming Teaching and Learning with iPads: Internet, Halloween, and Guided Math - 5 views

  •
"Since receiving the iPad Pilot classroom, life has been so much easier on me with great planning. In my guided math class, I begin each class where the students have 5 minutes to work on their facts using Mad Math Lite and Monster Math. These apps have helped the children improve on their multiplication and division facts. Once the five minutes have passed, we start Guided Math."

How To Transfer Photos from iPad or iPhone to another iPad « EdApps.ca - 5 views

  •
"When students start taking photos and video on a variety of iPads, iPods and iPhones for a collaborative project, it can be a little hairy trying to pull all of that media into one place. Last year while struggling to share photos through a variety of apps that just never seemed to work well enough, I discovered that I could use the camera connector kit to connect one iPad to another to share photos and even large video files"

Asking "why" you want iPads is a critical question... - iPads in Education - 0 views

  •
"In his book "Start with Why" and the accompanying TED talk, author Simon Sinek claims that we're all very clear about "what" we do. In fact, you often define yourself by what you do - "I'm a teacher" for example. You focus heavily on "how" you should do whatever it is you do and usually develop a routine to make it easier."

Wallet: Your Secure Info Is Now on iPad | iPad.AppStorm - 1 views

  •
"For most power users (and I'll assume that most of you are), security is important. Even for you non-power users, it should be important. Don't make the tragic slip-up of using "123456" as your password for every site and service you frequent. But when you start using a different complex, alphanumeric password for every login, how do you keep track of them?"

"My wife is thrilled with the "new" iPad 2 she inherited when my new iPad arrived. I wanted to configure it for her so she could get up and running, so I thought I would just change a few settings here or there and give it to her using my settings. After about 30 minutes of tweaking, I decided to start over from scratch."

Top 6 iPad Shortcuts Gestures - 15 views

  •
"Virtually anyone from hardcore geeks to orangutans (no, really) can simply pick up an iPad and start using it immediately. But apparently that's not good enough for Apple, because iOS (and especially the new version, iOS 5) offers a number of shortcuts to make any iPad user into a power user."
