Six Examples of iPad Integration in the 1:1 Classroom | Edutopia - 1 views

  • 6) Digital Literacy by Andy Marcinek (@AndyCinek on Twitter) Objective: Demonstrate what you have learned throughout this class. Consider the Google Zeitgeist 2011 video we watched prior to break. It should work as a demonstration of what you learned as opposed to a retelling of applications and ideas you learned. NOTE: I'm not looking for a PowerPoint presentation. Requirements: Creatively show what you have learned from the course. You may want to demonstrate how you will use these skills in the future. You may want to highlight one application or multiple applications that appeal to you. You may want to present on a specific subject such as digital health and wellness, digital identity, social media, privacy or creative commons. You may want to create something entirely new using the applications and ideas you gleaned from this course. You may want to create a movie trailer for this course. You may want to create a documentary about this course. Or, you may want to do something completely different. Grading: You will be graded on your ability to clearly demonstrate to an audience your learning over the past few weeks. I will be looking for the following items in your final work: Creativity Engagement Understanding Proficiency Presentation Participation (in class) Examples: Google Zeitgeist Video 2011 Educational Technology Course Projects from - Dr. Alec Couros Joe Sabia: The Technology of Storytelling Presentations and demonstrations will begin on January 11th and conclude on January 13th. "At Burlington High School in Burlington, MA, we are entering our eighth month of a 1:1 iPad initiative that began in September 2011. Don't get me wrong, we think the iPad is a great device for learning and gives each of our students a dynamic learning tool that can be used across the content areas and to accomplish a variety of tasks. Many of the critics claim that we are backing our students into a corner by giving them one brand and one skill set to learn exclusively on one device. This is not the case at Burlington. Furthermore, I have support. "

iPad 3rd Gen (wifi/cellular) - 4 views

  •
Like earlier iPad models, the iPad 3rd Generation (Wi-Fi/Cellular* - AT&T/A-GPS, A1430) -- which some may choose to refer to as the "iPad 3," even though Apple does not -- is a tablet computer for the web, e-mail, photos, video, music, gaming and more. Unlike earlier iPad models, however, the iPad 3rd Gen line is significantly more powerful and the focus has shifted more substantially from consuming content to creating it. All iPad 3rd Gen models most notably feature a "resolutionary" 9.7-inch 2048x1536 (264 ppi) multitouch glossy LED-backlit "retina" display, but also pack a dual-core 1 GHz Apple A5X "system on a chip" with quad core graphics, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of flash memory storage, a rear-mounted 5 megapixel "iSight" camera capable of shooting stills and 1080p video and a front-mounted VGA-quality "FaceTime" camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and more. This specific iPad 3rd Gen model also supports 4G LTE connectivity (700, 2100 MHz), intended for use on AT&T's network in the US and Bell, Rogers and Telus in Canada, as well as A-GPS. Battery life is reportedly 10 hours "surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music" and 9 hours surfing the web using cellular data. Compared to the iPad 2 models, major differences for the iPad 3rd Gen line include a higher-resolution display, faster processor, better camera, and improved connectivity. *In response to criticism from consumer groups and government agencies, Apple formally changed the advertising of this model from "Wi-Fi + 4G" to "Wi-Fi + Cellular" starting around may 12, 2012.

This wiki was created for an iPad workshop at ESSDACK in Hutchinson, KS on October 18, 2011 by Judy Beam and Mary Frazier. You'll notice the pages of this wiki (on the left hand side) are the Common Core Standards. We have placed iPad apps on each page that might help your students learn that concept. There will be overlap - one app may meet more than one standard. Please leave comments, suggest apps, or share your experiences in the discussion tab of the appropriate page.

Free Technology for Teachers: Nearpod Introduces New Options for Delivering Lessons on iPads - 5 views

  •
"Nearpod is a service for delivering lessons, quizzes, and polls to students through iPads. I reviewed Nearpod when it launched to the public in May. This week Nearpod introduced some convenient updates to their offerings. One of the the new features that I like is Web Share which lets teachers share websites with students in a safe browser environment. Another option that I like is a PIN system that allows students to access content that teachers share with them before a class meeting."

"As a follow up to my post, Whatever Happened to iBooks????, I thought a lot about how iBooks and the Camera may be two of the most powerful apps on the iPad, and yet the most under appreciated. In many ways, they are essentially "invisible apps.""

"Siri is one of Apple's flagship features, a virtual, personal, digital assistant with a personality straight out of a Pixar film. If you've got an iPhone 5, iPod touch 5, iPad mini, or iPad 4, then you've got Siri! With Siri, you can do all sorts of amazing, time-saving things, from keeping in contact, to keeping on time, to keeping informed. But first, you may need to get Siri set up and up to speed."

"If you want to edit and create videos on your iPad, consider using the Pinnacle Studio for iPad app. It may seem expensive for an iPad app at $10, but my formative experiences with it this weekend were VERY positive. IMHO it's worth the money. "

5 Things To Know About The BYOD Trend | Edudemic - 8 views

  •
"The Bring-Your-Own-Device trend makes sense. It's cost-effective and lets students use the device they already know and love. While it may present some problems for your school or district's IT department, it's a great start to bringing in web 2.0 tools and apps to the classroom."

New AppGuide: Handwriting Apps For iPad -- AppAdvice - 4 views

eBay on the iPad updated to 2.0 means fun for the weekend! | iGo With My iPad - 0 views

  •
"eBay has been available on the iPhone and iPad for years now. While, for the most part, it is possible to get at things you may want to buy, the iPad app hasn't really been using all that screen space effectively. With the 2.0 update, eBay has done a much better job at offering a mobile version of their service that is quick and easy to use."

Skitch: Draw Attention | iPad.AppStorm - 5 views

  •
"Screenshots are useful in many situations, but iOS doesn't offer a native way to mark up screenshots or photos that may require a bit more explanation. If only there was a simple way to circle a face in a picture, draw an arrow to an important map point, or add a caption to a funny photo. Fortunately there's Skitch, a free iPad application from Evernote that makes annotating photos and screenshots painless. "

"Side by Side is a remarkable free app. With Side by Side, you can split the iPad screen into as many as four windows that can be positioned and sized as needed. These windows can be used to view multiple websites, PDF's or MS Word files. Or, any of the windows may be used for note-taking text editors. Text can be copied into a text editor from other open windows. Text-to-speech is available in any of the windows via Speak Selection."
