review The Assistive Technology Blog: "There's an App for that!" Not AAC It features a picture schedule which can be customized using photos from the iTouch photo library or using photos contained in the small iPrompts library. The second feature is a 2 picture choice board which can also be customized with pictures from the iTouch photo library or the iPrompts library. By turning the iTouch to landscape mode, when the student touches his choice the other choice is shaded. Finally, the last feature is a visual timer. A picture can be included along with the timer that gives the student a visual cue as to how much time is left in a particular activity. READ MORE...

  •
"In this day and age of digital books, library attendance is falling as people pick up their Kindles instead of paperbacks. One library in Illinois decided to win back patrons by embracing this technology instead of fighting it, says a report in Winnetka Talk."

iPads for Everyone: How a small library program became a runaway hit and reached more than 4,100 kids and teachers - The Digital Shift - 21 views

  •
"Walk into our school library and you're bound to see scores of iPads propped up on the tables. Our students at Westlake High, a large suburban school on the outskirts of Austin, TX, are using them to read ebooks, download assignments, edit videos, write blog posts, and to do much more. Since we rolled out our 1:1 iPad program a year ago, more than 4,100 teachers and students, including eighth graders at the nearby middle school and even some of our elementary school classes, have taken advantage of these devices. In fact, they've become as much a part of students' everyday lives as their notebooks, backpacks, and textbooks."

App Synergy: How To Engage In Literary Pursuits, The iPad Way -- AppAdvice - 2 views

  •
"This week's App Synergy ties in quite well with Lenny's previous piece about apps coming together towards creating a digital comic library. Similarly, I'll also be talking about a digital library, only it's of the non-comic kind."

"Many libraries and educational organisations across the world see the benefits of including your community in understanding how latest technology can enhance learning. A number of libraries have what they call a 'Digital Petting Zoo' where you can go and find out more about the technology, find out what it can do, how to use it and feel comfortable with the technology."

  • I have heard reports that consumer-grade hubs are not up to this kind of load long-term so we will see how that goes
  • I'm not happy with the way we're doing Secondary syncing and I'm starting to think that adopting the Primary sync model (every device on one library) would be of more benefit
  • When, I want to deploy a new app, I buy it on my master Mac mini. Each library is configured to pull new purchases from the mini using iTunes Home Sharing. This works but is imperfect, as Home Sharing only pulls new purchases and not updates
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • purchase and deploy all the applications centrally

    Great lists of iPad apps

Some interesting management comments re accounts and syncing.

Mobile Libraries: Livestream Launches Free iPhone Service - 4 views

  •
"free service for streaming live to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Using Livestream Procaster, users can stream live from their webcam, video camera or even broadcast their PC or Mac desktop. Livestream producers can start streaming live to the addressable iPhone and iPod Touch audience over 3G or Wi-Fi connections, with less than five minutes of setup. A key breakthrough is that the service doesn't require any proprietary player or application to be installed on the iPhone. Producers are free to integrate the iPhone live stream with their own website, iPhone portal or iPhone application using the API provided.
