Digital Roadtrip * Unique method for accessing student work on iPads? - 16 views

  •
"There is an awful lot of hot air blown about accessing student work from "class sets" of iPads, via email, WebDAV, Dropbox etc etc. A little known and cool method is this… We all know that we can share via iTunes over USB to any Mac/PC with a recent version of iTunes. Well would you believe the same thing works without a cable and it doesn't have to be the Mac/PC that manages the devices. It means that any teacher can access all the students files on a device that has been "Saved to iTunes". You can even pick up the work, mark it and hand it back to the iPad whilst the iPad is still being used by the kids (unbeknown to the user!)."

"Some times when I am speaking at a conference about iPads in education teachers will share a concern that they have about every student getting an iPad. They are worried than the students will just work in isolation and our society will become even more fractured and self-centered with students never learning to work together. "

iPads at Burley: Poetry Publishing on the iPads - 0 views

"We're in the heart of our unit on poetry. My students have learned several strategies that poets use including repetition, onomatopoeia, alliteration, visual imagery and line breaks. This week a few students wanted to draft their poems on the iPad. We had not tried this before, so I decided to let my students "have a go."

Pros And Cons Of iPads In The Classroom - Elizabeth Woyke - Mobilized - Forbes - 5 views

  •
"Conventional wisdom says that loaning Apple's bestselling iPad to college students would be a popular move. A seven-week-long study by the University of Notre Dame found that students did indeed like learning with the tablet computers, but that they used the devices differently than was expected. The students also identified some drawbacks of bringing iPads into the classroom, such as the difficulty of taking notes on the tablet."

"I have blogged previously about the power of apps that tell stories as an educational activity. It stimulates higher order thinking skills, it provides opportunities for reflection and it enriches the learning experience for our students. So here I have listed apps that allow your students to create animations. I love the simplicity with which animations allow difficult concepts to be easily explained. These apps provide you with another set of tools to enhance your students learning."

Apps in Education: Science Probes for the iPad - 10 views

  •
"Science is one of those subjects that really excite students because they get to see cause and effect, they get to create, record and then document results and they get to manipulate the variables that produce the data. Students then get to make connections between what they do and the real world. Add an iPad, a series of carefully chosen apps and a couple of probes and you can make all of these observations happen in a mobile environment - outside, at home or even on an excursion. I would love to be a student in a classroom with these tools!"

"Poetry is one of the areas of the curriculum in which it can be particularly challenging to engage and excite students, with teachers sometimes battling the unfounded stereotype that poems are 'old-fashioned' or 'uncool', or that it is 'embarrassing' or too hard to write your own."

Six Examples of iPad Integration in the 1:1 Classroom | Edutopia - 1 views

  • 6) Digital Literacy by Andy Marcinek (@AndyCinek on Twitter) Objective: Demonstrate what you have learned throughout this class. Consider the Google Zeitgeist 2011 video we watched prior to break. It should work as a demonstration of what you learned as opposed to a retelling of applications and ideas you learned. NOTE: I'm not looking for a PowerPoint presentation. Requirements: Creatively show what you have learned from the course. You may want to demonstrate how you will use these skills in the future. You may want to highlight one application or multiple applications that appeal to you. You may want to present on a specific subject such as digital health and wellness, digital identity, social media, privacy or creative commons. You may want to create something entirely new using the applications and ideas you gleaned from this course. You may want to create a movie trailer for this course. You may want to create a documentary about this course. Or, you may want to do something completely different. Grading: You will be graded on your ability to clearly demonstrate to an audience your learning over the past few weeks. I will be looking for the following items in your final work: Creativity Engagement Understanding Proficiency Presentation Participation (in class) Examples: Google Zeitgeist Video 2011 Educational Technology Course Projects from - Dr. Alec Couros Joe Sabia: The Technology of Storytelling Presentations and demonstrations will begin on January 11th and conclude on January 13th. "At Burlington High School in Burlington, MA, we are entering our eighth month of a 1:1 iPad initiative that began in September 2011. Don't get me wrong, we think the iPad is a great device for learning and gives each of our students a dynamic learning tool that can be used across the content areas and to accomplish a variety of tasks. Many of the critics claim that we are backing our students into a corner by giving them one brand and one skill set to learn exclusively on one device. This is not the case at Burlington. Furthermore, I have support. "
