British study finds students and teachers have positive views about the uses of iPads to enhance learning

Nearly 1,000 K-12 schools have an iPad one-to-one program. In other words, at minimum, they are providing an entire classroom of students with their own iPads to use throughout their school day. Other metrics reinforce that trend. Apple says that currently every state in the U.S. has a K-12 iPad education pilot program or deployment in place. And more than 2,300 K-12 school districts in the United States are running iPad programs for students or faculty, among them New York City and Chicago.

Dede said, "I think the big shift between the industrial-era school and the 21st century learning environment is moving from teaching by telling and learning by listening, to learning by figuring things out, often collaboratively, and teaching by supporting, facilitating and guiding."

EDMONTON - Students at Parkview School, an elementary-junior high, can't text friends during classtime, but their mobile devices are beginning to serve a purpose as an instructional tool, says principal Dan Beharry.

As for the students, the iPads "aren't really something 'new' now, they're just part of (students') daily activities, which is what we wanted this new technology to be."
