AppleInsider | iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader - 0 views

" iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader By Daniel Eran Dilger Published: 04:27 PM EST (01:27 PM PST) A new market research report notes that mobile devices now amount to almost 7 percent of all US web traffic, with Apple's iOS representing a 58.5 percent slice of all mobile traffic and the iPad now accounting for more traffic than iPhones. The growth of mobile devices has claimed a 6.8 percent chunk of US web traffic from conventional PCs, according to a new report by comScore. Of that segment, about two thirds of the traffic is from mobile phones and a remaining third is being generated by tablet users. The group notes that Apple's iPad now accounts for 97.2 percent of all tablet-originating web traffic, driving home the reality that competitors have not yet released a significant tablet competitor. Among iOS users, iPad now accounts for 46.8 percent of all traffic generated, making it now a more prolific tool than the iPhone for mobile web use, which represents 42.6 percent of iOS traffic. An increasingly important market segment The firm also outlined why the growth of tablet traffic is significant, noting that almost half of tablet owners have completed purchases using their tablet. "Tablet owners exhibited significant use of their devices throughout the entire online shopping process," comScore reported, "from doing the initial planning, conducting product and store research, making price comparisons, to finally transacting. In the past month, more than half of tablet owners looked up product or price information for a specific store (56 percent) and read customer ratings and reviews while on a tablet (54 percent)." The group added, "the incremental reach through mobile and connected devices should not be underestimated," pointing out that, "in August 2011, the additional mobile and connected device audience for Pandora accounted for more than half of their total cross-platform audience." Apple's Podcasts App Delivers a Solid Listening Experience | iPad.AppStorm - 3 views

"n iOS 6, Apple decided it was time to remove the podcasts function of the Music app and replace it with a standalone app, available for free in the App Store. Properly titled Podcasts, this app released in June of this year, but has been under much criticism for its half-baked design, lag and lack of functionality. Since then, there have been three updates to the app, the last of which arriving the day of iOS 6's release. All the same, is this app even worth the trouble Apple has gone to thus far?"

My Must-Have iPad Apps, 2011 Edition - 16 views

  •
"Last year, six months after the release of the original iPad, I published an article called "My Must-Have 20 iPad Apps" in which I collected my favorite iPad applications - the ones I used and enjoyed the most - as of September 2010. Fast forward thirteen months, the iPad's software ecosystem has matured into something completely different from last year's "experimentation" stage, when third-party developers, and quite possibly Apple as well, were still trying to figure out how, exactly, the iPad would change our digital lifestyles. Looking back to the iPad 1 and the App Store in 2010, it's no surprise the list of apps I have today is so much different."

10 Things You Never Knew You Could Do On Your iPad: Apple News, Tips and Revi... - 13 views

  • Enable Multitasking Gestures When Apple released Xcode 4 to the Mac App Store, it also exposed the ability for anyone to enable the multitasking gestures on the iPad.  Once enabled, you can use five fingers to swipe up and down to reveal the multitask bar, left and right to navigate through open Apps on the multitasking bar.  You can also perform a five finger pinch to close the App you are in and return to the home screen.  To enable multitasking gestures, you must first purchase Xcode 4 from the Mac App Store ($4.99) or simply download it from the Apple Developer Connection (ADC) if you are already a member.  Then launch Xcode 4 and select the Organizer tool from the Window menu (or click Shift+Command+2).  Attach the iPad to your Mac and click on the enable development button.  Log on the the ADC and click through the error messages if they are presented.  Finally, on the iPad go to the General setting in the Settings App and you will notice a new setting near the bottom labels “Multitasking Gestures”.

"After Apple pushed its 25 billionth app this weekend there was nothing especially surprising about the list of all-time paid apps for the iPhone: games and novelty apps dominated it. But the list of all-time paid apps for the iPad was somewhat revealing. Pages, Apple's word processing app, was up there at number one. Numbers and Keynote were on the list as well, as well as Penultimate, QuickOffice Pro HD, Notability and Splashtop Remote Desktop. Almost 25 percent of the list was comprised of productivity apps."

Photos and Documents on the TV from your iPad - wired and wireless! | iGo With My iPad - 14 views

I'm confused. I think I might've missed something... Why do I need this app? All it does is what AirPlay does already, doesn't it? If one has an AppleTV connected to either a projector or a TV, using the built-in AirPlay iOS 5 feature I can see whatever I do on my iPad on the screen (projector or TV). AND if I simple connect my iPad to a projector via cable 90% of the apps have VGA out - it works. SO WHY do I need this app?

From reading the documentation it appears that this app will enable mirroring with the original iPad. Not having access to an original iPad at the moment I can't confirm this though. The app also works on the iPhone 4 according to the site. The History 2.0 Classroom: Back to School App-pack - 8 views

"The summer is quickly winding down & a number of teachers will be returning to their classroom with new mobile devices (iPads). Throughout the summer I have been conducting workshops on iPad integration with EdTechTeacher and I thought it might be helpful to pull together a back to school list of apps structured around specific classroom goals. While many schools may already have an Apple VPP program already in place, I know a number of teachers will also be purchasing the apps themselves. Therefore, I will do my best to include both a pay & free app for each objective."

None would spill any beans concerning launch-day involvement, but we did learn more about how the developer community is anticipating the new display."

"Each of these potential features of the next iPad would definitely increase the potential of more classrooms adopting the iPad sooner than later. After all, that's Apple's goal. The more iPads there are… the more apps that can be downloaded… the more media can be consumed… the more money Apple can make. So here are some of the recent rumors being discussed in the run-up to Wednesday's big announcement by Apple."

Mirror an iPad2 on your Mac Laptop | iPad with Wes - 7 views

"Dreams come true, and I'm thrilled to share this one with you. Using the $15 Reflection App on an Apple computer, it's now possible to MIRROR the screen of an iPad2 or iPhone4S right on your screen. This essentially makes your Apple computer function like an AppleTV for iOS mirroring, except you don't need to purchase and install a $99 AppleTV with a HDMI cable. This is HUGE for teachers and anyone else needing to share an iPad screen with students over a projector. "
