"The jury is still out on school iPad deployments"

"Seriously, I know my way around an iPad and have a passion for finding great apps that promote deeper learning but I'm afraid of how this iPad deployment is going to pan out stateside & worldwide. What about all the wonderful teachers that just aren't there yet, as far as mobile technology is concerned? What about others that are scared of change… any kind of change?! If I'm scared, what are they feeling? How will it be for brand new teachers, entering the field in this wake of change?"

Nearly 1,000 K-12 schools have an iPad one-to-one program. In other words, at minimum, they are providing an entire classroom of students with their own iPads to use throughout their school day. Other metrics reinforce that trend. Apple says that currently every state in the U.S. has a K-12 iPad education pilot program or deployment in place. And more than 2,300 K-12 school districts in the United States are running iPad programs for students or faculty, among them New York City and Chicago.

We Want Apps is a free iPad and iPhone app for discovering new apps for kids. I discovered We Want Apps on David Kapuler's blog and immediately gave it a try on my iPad. With We Want Apps installed on your iPad you can search for apps according to the age of your students, the platform (iPhone or iPad), and price (free or paid). After choosing your search criteria you will be given a list of apps. Click on an app in the search results list to read a detailed description of that app.

A pdf with 20 ipad apps for educators - this may be something you could email to your teachers if they've just gotten ipads to teach them how to open and read a pdf on their ipad. This is really just a powerpoint converted to PDF but it does include links and screenshots.

"I searched all summer for a fun Back-to-School activity. Well. . . unfortunately I couldn't find anything!! So, I have been racking my brain to come up with something exciting for Open House. This is when my kids will find out who their teacher will be for the year, and they will also find out that we will have 30 iPads in our classroom!! Yay! I decided to incorporate the QR scans and create an Open House Scavenger Hunt to give the parents and kids the information needed to begin the new school year. This week Nearpod introduced some convenient updates to their offerings. One of the the new features that I like is Web Share which lets teachers share websites with students in a safe browser environment. Another option that I like is a PIN system that allows students to access content that teachers share with them before a class meeting."

"Study Hall is a new website and iOS app for sharing and studying with friends. Even though the service is still in a beta phase it seems promising. The basic idea behind Study Hall is to enable teachers and students to upload content to a common place and access it through an iPad, an iPhone, or an iPod Touch. "

Hi, I'm new to Diigo and here's the site I run for teachers who are new to using iPads. The site's only 2 weeks old but I've had great feedback. I focus on how teachers will move to 21st Century Schooling and keeping Tech-introduction simple. I hope it helps and also hope to get lots more from this group, thanks.
