Gold rose nearly 1 percent on Tuesday after a top European Central Bank official said the euro zone crisis was not over, but the metal remained vulnerable as redemptions in gold-backed exchange-traded funds continued. Holdings of SPDR Gold Trust, the world's biggest gold-backed ETF, fell to the lowest since October 2011 at 1,236.729 tonnes as of Monday. Other analysts, however, said that the pace at which ETFs investors exit their positions has been easing in the past week, which should help stem recent losses in gold. MCX silver continues to trade in a narrow band of 55500 to 53890 since couple of weeks now which is very much reflected by the Bollinger bands which have narrowed a lot. Prices are expected to target $22.7 which is 261.8% Fibonacci retracement level of consolidation from $35.4 to $30.5 which earlier halted at 161.8% Fibonacci retracement around $28.10%. The market extended its southward journey for the second trading session of the October month with the Sensex falling 296.02 points or 1.11 percent to 26271.97 on Tuesday. Hindalco Industries, Sesa Sterlite, Cipla, Dr Reddy's Labs, HDFC, DLF, Jindal Steel and Cairn India were top losers, falling 3-6 percent while NTPC, Gail India and Power Grid bucked the trend, up 1-1.5 percent followed by Tata Motors, Wipro and Tata Power with marginal gains.
