Learning vs Work in a Culture of Thinking - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Earlier this year a group of teachers I work with explored the 'Eight Cultural Forces' identified by Ron Ritchhart of Harvard's Project Zero. In doing so we decided to focus on our use of the term learning instead of the word work. Our goal was to bring our language choices into the spotlight and explore how a more deliberate focus on learning might alter the culture of our classrooms. Two terms later this focus persists and it is worth reflecting on the effect that this has had.

enter the search string, click Google search, and a "screen cast" of the search string with moving arrow appers, along with a page of search results. Would be a good way to illustrate to kids what adding all those words in the string really means.

Digital Frog International :: The Digital Field Trip to The Wetlands - All Li... - 1 views

  •
Great interactive CD-ROM project from folks who bring you "The Digital Frog." This page outlines an educator's license, but try the Demo first! It looks great for an Ecology class.
  •
This award-winning digital field trip allows students to visit a bog in Algonquin Park, Ontario without getting their feet wet. Photos, videos, animations and interactive exercises teach about such topics as photosynthesis, wetland types and mechanisms, wetland plants and animals, formation and succession, food webs and the impact of humans on this vital ecosystem. Interactive concept maps and context-sensitive help ensure that users never get lost. Definitions and pronunciations make the text accessible to students with a wide range of reading levels. Even very young children can enjoy many activities, as well as videos and pictures. Students love playing the electronic version of the predator-prey string game. Teacher and Student versions of the workbook materials are included on the disc in PDF, Word, RTF and Ascii formats, allowing you to print just what you need, when you need it, as well as customizing the materials if needed.

Hi, I posted this in the Notebook forum, but will add it herre too. This should work on Mac (I don't have one or else I'd try) as it is web-based There's actually a really nice free tool out there called OCR Terminal (www.ocrterminal.com). It's an online service that allows you to convert scanned images and PDFs into editable and text searchable documents. It's not bad at preserving formatting and layout. You can download the converted documents in .doc, .txt, .rtf, or .xml formats, which is handy because .xml can be uploaded into Senteo for quizzing.
