Though the markets made substantial gains today, they lost much of it in the last hour of trade to close about 0.8% up. Capital goods and banking were the biggest laggards in today's session and support came primarily from auto, IT and oil & gas. The Sensex closed at 16939, up 154 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5098, up 48 points. The CNX Midcap index closed with 0.4% loss while the BSE Smallcap index was down 0.3% in today's trade.

Indian stock markets continue to maintain their positive streak in the second week of 2022 with Nifty crossing 18k levels and Sensex regaining 60k+ closing the week with 2.4%+ gains. At the NCDEX, chilli futures for October 2012 contract closed at Rs. 5,390 per quintal, up by 1.05 per cent, after opening at Rs. 5,324 against the previous closing price of Rs. 5,334. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 5,410.

Nickel prices closed higher by 0.67 per cent on Wednesday at the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) in the midst of a pick up in the demand from alloy makers in the market. Nickel futures for December 2012 contract, at MCX, closed at Rs. 887.40 per kg, up by 0.67 per cent after opening at Rs. 884.50 against the previous closing price of Rs. 881.50. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 893.20. Major producers of Nickel are Russia, followed by Australia, Canada, New Caledonia and Indonesia, which represents over 65 per cent of total world production.

Chana prices closed lower by 0.96 per cent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited as a result of the steady sowing progress of pulses along with high supplies in major producing states. At the NCDEX, chana futures for December 2012 contract closed at Rs. 4,233 per quintal, down by 0.96 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,275 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,274. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,225.

Maize prices closed lower by 0.76 per cent on Thursday at NCDEX as a result of heavy selling activity by the traders on account of higher global supplies and weak offtakes from the local buyers. At the NCDEX, maize futures for December 2012 contract closed at Rs. 1,443 per quintal, down by 0.76 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,458 against the previous closing price of Rs. 1,454. Indian indices gained mighty strength on Tuesday as it ended trading session at the highest point of the day. The Sensex closed at 19143.17, gaining 265.21 points while the Nifty added 85.75 points to end at 5784.25. The Sensex rose 29 points to close at 18865 and the Nifty gained 22 points to close at 5704. Mid and small cap shares were the star performers of the day. At the NCDEX, castor seed futures for October 2012 contract closed at Rs. 3,762 per quintal tonnes, down by 1.57 per cent, after opening at Rs. 3,800 against the previous closing price of Rs. 3,822. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 3,761.

The US markets closed near session highs boosted by better than expected earnings report. With the recent gains, the Dow and S&P are now nearly 5 and 7 percent away, respectively, from their all-time closing highs in October 2007. RS has bolstered the trick. At the NCDEX, jeera futures for September 2012 contract closed at Rs. 13,900 per quintal, down by 2.56 per cent, after opening at Rs. 14,280 against the previous closing price of Rs. 14,265. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 13,695.
