Castorseed prices ended lower by 2.29 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited as a result of fresh supply of the commodity in the major mandies as well as strong production estimates for the current year.

Chana prices closed lower by 0.96 per cent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited as a result of the steady sowing progress of pulses along with high supplies in major producing states. At the NCDEX, chana futures for December 2012 contract closed at Rs. 4,233 per quintal, down by 0.96 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,275 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,274. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,225.

Maize prices closed lower by 0.76 per cent on Thursday at NCDEX as a result of heavy selling activity by the traders on account of higher global supplies and weak offtakes from the local buyers. At the NCDEX, maize futures for December 2012 contract closed at Rs. 1,443 per quintal, down by 0.76 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,458 against the previous closing price of Rs. 1,454. Natural gas futures moved sharply lower during U.S. trade Wednesday, as market players looked ahead to Thursday's closely watched U.S. government report on natural gas supplies.

The World Bank has lowered its fiscal year economic growth forecast for India to 6.0% due to infrastructure problems and slow policy reform, and warned there is a high risk that growth could slow further if economic conditions in Europe deteriorate.
