If Your Kids Are Awake, They're Probably Online - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  •
This article seems to be very germane to our current discussions about technology infusion. Interesting to see a study that also looks at educational outcomes in conjunction with usage. The ramifications are certainly farther reaching than what appears on the surface. I hope you find it interesting. Sandy

Distributed Cognition - 0 views

  • One of the challenges for those involved in teaching and learning is to achieve a satisfactory level of 'coordination' of their thinking.

Each person has their own unique way of learning.
  •
I find quite interesting the idea that knowledge is distributed across members of a group rather than within an individual. This belief boasts a strong case for the benefits of collaboration on any level. This articles discusses distributed cognition in the elementary classroom with an emphasis on the 'coordination' of thinking.

Distributed Cognition as an Instructional Framework - 1 views

At first it is confusing to think of cognition as being shared with non-human resources.
  •
This article introduces distributed cognition from different points of view. The greater focus is on its relationship with resources and the environment, rather than with members of a group. The characteristics of a distributed learning environment are discussed in detail.

The NCTE Definition of 21st Century Literacies - 0 views

  •
I highlighted and made notes on many pages of the first three chapters of our class text. Although many ideas and facts hit me hard, I think one idea that really resonates with me right now is this: "The National Council of Teachers of English released a new definition of 21st-century literacies in February 2008..." (p. 15) This revised definition must be used to guide our curriculum decisions and our district's own revision of our literacy standards.
