Landsat Image Gallery - Bang Kachao: Bangkok's Green Lung - 0 views

"In the heart of Thailand's most populous city, an oasis stands out from the urban landscape like a great "green lung." That's the nickname given to Bang Kachao-a lush protected area that has escaped the dense development seen elsewhere in Bangkok. The city is built on the alluvial plain of the Chao Phraya River. Toward the southern end, near the Gulf of Thailand, is an old meander that never quite formed an oxbow lake. That meander traces the boundary of Bang Kachao, which TIME magazine once called the "best urban oasis" in Asia."

A photograph of the scene shows that rescue in heart-wrenching detail: the anguished mother's look of relief to feel the touch of a gentle hand, as if she suddenly knew she and the infant at her breast were going to be OK."

Why crude oil prices keep falling and falling, in one simple chart - Vox - 0 views

  •
"Over the past two years, global crude oil prices have been in free-fall, and no one seems to know when the bungee cord will catch. In June 2014, you had to shell out $110 to buy a barrel of Brent crude. By early 2015, that had plunged to $60. Today, it costs just $30 to buy a barrel of oil - a level not seen since 2004. It's a staggering decline."
