Sketchpad Explorer for iPad - 0 views

  •
I sent this link to Chris Harrow, a colleague who teaches math at The Westminster School in Atlanta. Here are his first impressions: Cool = very smooth functionality on the iPad, you can do all the explorations in the most excellent iPad touchscreen environment, a very tactile approach to learning geometry. Frustrating = you have to create the docs elsewhere, on first exploration, I don't see a way to do constructions directly in this app. If a kid gets a good idea that requires additional "stuff" on the construction, s/he may not be able to instantly follow up on intuition. Any one else want to weigh in?

Practice Math Worksheets on the iPad through Math Pentagon. Though the app is free, you do have to pay for the service. It definitely has a lot of potential.

Adobe Reader has some great features - such as inserting a signature or filling in forms. However, when sharing out completed forms or PDFs with annotations, the notes do not appear. It seems as though this is best used if annotating and then printing.

All the Awesome Things You Can Do with a Long Press on Your iPhone, iPad, or iPad touch - 1 views

  •
When we teach iPad workshops, we like to begin with "tap and hold" as a skill. While many folks have already figured it out, the concept is new to a majority of the educators whom we work with. This is a great post describing some of the results.

BaiBoard - Collaborative Whiteboard - 0 views

  •
Not only does BaiBoard allow students to collaborate on a shared whiteboard via their iPads, but they can also jointly annotate PDFs. Much like with AirSketch, BaiBoard also includes the ability to do a web share. This means that when on the same network, and with the unique URL associated with the iPad, ANY device can see a student working on their BaiBoard through a browser.

    iPad as a document camera
  •
This is a great use of the iPad! Document cameras are excellent: especially in elementary classrooms. Suzy Brooks, a teacher in Falmouth, MA, has excellent examples of this on her blog: 3rd Graders Dreaming Big (http://blogs.falmouth.k12.ma.us/simplysuzy/)

Ed Tech Teacher - iPad Summit USA Boston - Keith Rispin - 0 views

  • With all this said however, there seemed to be one thing missing. One little but significant piece of the puzzle, without which all is for not. There was surprisingly little if any discussion on the role of student in this little learning revolution. We talked about how teachers have to change, education systems have to change, teaching practice has to change, the physical aspects of school have to change but NOTHING about how the student will have to change. Sure we talked about what kids should be able to do when they walk out the door but we did not discuss how the learner has to change their practice.

Created by the people who made Vimeo, DIY is an open tool for kids to make their own digital portfolios and for parents to have a login to the account. Using the app and the web, kids can save all that they create. This is definitely worth exploring when thinking about extended learning environments.
