This is a free set of podcasts from a group of Apple Distinguished Educators regarding iPads and Inclusive Design.

This is a full-featured Augmented & Alternative Communication solution for $189.99. While this seems pricey, it is significantly less expensive than other AAC devices.

TouchChat is another Augmented & Alternative Communication (AAC) app available for individuals with disabilities that impact their ability to use natural speech. For $149.99, it is still less expensive than other full-featured AAC devices and can work across iOS devices.

This free app turns your iOS device into an Augmented & Alternative Communication (AAC) device to give a non-verbal student a voice. 

This is an incredible app for students with special needs. It connects to the Bookshare.org database and does require a membership ID. However, students and organizations who qualify have access to a tremendous resource.  "From within Read2Go, you can browse, search, download, and read books directly from Bookshare using your Bookshare membership, as well as read DAISY books from other sources. The app gives you full control over visual choices for font size and color, background and highlighting color, and text-to-speech preferences. Read2Go features word-by-word highlighting for multi-modal reading."

Though not free ($9.99), makes iPad completely accessible. Reads PDF, Word, eBooks, web articles, etc. Integrates with numerous content curation apps. 

Spectronics, a company that focuses on Inclusive Learning Technologies, has put together this list of apps for literacy support. Not all of them are free, but they make great suggestions.

This game provides a visual means for students to identify root words and create compound words.

This app lets you create sound boards on your iPad or iOS device. You can use both their symbols or your own pictures.

A great post describing apps to help students with reading and writing difficulties. 

This list comes from Teacher Reboot Camp. The suggested apps provide multiple ways for students to interact with various aspects of stories: plot, characters, setting, etc.
