Dan Carlin - Hardcore History Archive - 9 views

This is the latest episode from the Hardcore History program, a podcast updated every month or two focussing on historical topics in often novel ways. Dan Carlin has a Bachelor degree in military history and his focus is on military and social history, which I and my students find interesting. I think sometimes his versions of history can be spurious (the latest one in particular) yet the value of podcasts for student learning are enormous. I make my students download iTunes and get them through that. Happy listening!

Still into the wikis. This collection doesn't show evidence of much development yet, however it could grow into a quality collection in future. Some of the topics are a little obscure. 'A History of Nejd'. Not quite sure on that one.

How cool is this? A (hopefully legal...) collection of free documentaries. There are 61 full-length history documentaries at the moment including 'Fog of War', a documentary about the Kennedy administration.

Good for basic research or a lesson activity. Some of the articles looked alright. I'm not sure how the content is generated or if it's very reliable.

A cornucopia of history sites that I got from the excellent NCSS History group. If I was a really diligent group member I would save them each individually. But I'm not.

I'm being lazy. I've been going through and saving these sites individually but I'm sick of looking at them. I'll come back later and finish the job.
There are heaps of sites there on ancient history.

I'm being lazy by saving such a large number of collections at once, however there's no other way for me to get through all of the sites I have sitting in my browser. I'll probably come back later and save them individually.

There is a plethora of links here to valuable online source sites as well as a few dead links. Also covers topics outside of history.

Digital Collections at Columbia - 0 views

An excellent set of digital source collections run by Columbia Uni. I've been meaning to save all these collections individually but it's such a massive task that I'm just saving the root pages of the collections. If you have a look through these you'll find some gems. And if you save them to the group you will have my undying affection (just please use the same tagging standards - it keeps the information findable).

Stuff You Missed in History Class - The Blogs at HowStuffWorks - 0 views

This is the blog which accompanies the podcast Stuff You Missed in History Class. Like just about all History podcasts, it's easily found through iTunes. My students have found the format on SYMIHC as user-friendly and valuable for their research. Worth a listen.

Documents Related to the History of International Relations, prior to 1914 - 0 views

A comprehensive list of links to documents on all periods of history, mainly focussed on the West. Seeings this links to all sorts of sites there will probably be a few dead links but it purports to link to documents and is maintained out of a university so should be useful for research and study.

TimeMaps Atlas of World History - 1 views

An excellent site for maps of civilisations of all time periods and regions. Easily usable - great for student research or developing classroom resources. Just save the images and Bob's your uncle!

Just checked this site out for Medieval History maps. The site is only in Beta phase at the moment and only covers up to the end of Ancient History. i.e. 500AD
