NPS Archeology Program: Ancient Architects of the Mississippi - 2 views

  •
Doesn't have a whole lot of material (most of it seems to be illustrations and reconstructions rather than primary sources - understandable I guess given the paucity of material culture) yet given the scarcity of materials on the topic I thought it was worth saving. A fascinating topic for students.

Educators - 12 views

You can no longer apply for this program and get materials sent to you...BUT, if you look at the bottom of the "Educators" page, you will see links to download electronically the entire educator's resource book (I couldn't get the whole book as one download, but downloading chapter by chapter worked), AND the PPT with all of the images!! AWESOME resource!!

You'll find the United States AP World & US History course documents available for download at the bottom right. They have outlines of what is covered in the courses and also example assessment items. I'm going to use them this summer as I redesign our school's work programs. Even if you don't teach in the US they might be helpful.

Has links to some example course documents from universities and a high school in America and Australia. I'm always interested in checking out how other people organise their courses; I'm redoing our Modern History Program at the moment. I prefer the chronological rather than thematic approach, although it seems it's going out of fashion these days.

Dan Carlin - Hardcore History Archive - 9 views

  •
This is the latest episode from the Hardcore History program, a podcast updated every month or two focussing on historical topics in often novel ways. Dan Carlin has a Bachelor degree in military history and his focus is on military and social history, which I and my students find interesting. I think sometimes his versions of history can be spurious (the latest one in particular) yet the value of podcasts for student learning are enormous. I make my students download iTunes and get them through that. Happy listening!

Brazilians Welcome Obama As Their Own : NPR - 4 views

  • "He looks more Brazilian than American."
  • Brazil was settled by waves of European immigrants and millions of African slaves brought there in chains. Their descendants make up the second-largest black population in the world after Nigeria.
  • there's no hiding the fact that blacks are worse off than whites.

  • the new Brazil saw a former shoeshine boy and factory worker – Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva – win the presidency in 2002. Now his hand-picked successor, Dilma Rousseff, herself a former political prisoner, is president. Their dual policy of generating rapid economic growth and providing generous social programs helped lift 30 million people into the middle class.
  • The symbolism of a black American president will encourage people here like nothing else,

Fascinantes momies d'Égypte - Quand la science remonte de fil de l'histoire :... - 6 views

Hi Ginger. I am creating a course in the history of art. I have posted your link on the page about mummies. I was quite delighted by your approach. Could you tell me about where you teach them what you teach and if you might be interested in the courses I am developing. Warmly, Katherine Bolman, Ph.D. www.ahaafoundation.org/ The quality of life is genuine not in the build-up of material welfare, but in the enlightened creativity of life, in the harmonisation of life. - --

I've been looking for someone to be an art history expert! We're a grade 5-8 charter school in Kansas with 1:1 laptops, working with a PBL approach. For my younger/newbie, I find sites for them for the first bit of the year. I'd love to look at these ancient civilizations through their art and literature. You can contact me at GingerTPLC *at* gmail *dot* com. We'd love to have a course that offers more expertise, or better yet, a moment of your time to perhaps Skype in with us sometime.
