The final videos can all be found here.  I hesitate to embed any in the post because I know I would be prone to pick the "best" one.  Please click on the link and randomly select one to watch! There are two pages of videos-and hey-leave a comment or a thumbs up!  I have to say, that after watching the kids make these, the final products just don't reflect the amount of work that is needed.  What I mean is that you shouldn't watch them and say "My kids could do that in a couple of days."  It took 360 minutes of class time to produce those 1-2 minute videos!! One thing I wished we had done is to write transitions so that the different videos linked together better.  I inadvertently led them to make videos on topics that come across as standing alone in time instead of being influenced and apart of other events and movements. Other good resources: Art Titzel Eric Langhorst John Fladd Karen McMillan Greg Kulowiec Mr. Canton Mr. Fogel Mr. Canton Authors write for different purposes.* The writing process is consistent across disciplines.* Technology is a tool for collecting, organizing, creating, and presenting informatio Tags: 6 COMMENTS SO FAR ↓ aimee // Dec 27, 2010 at 8:56 pm These videos really are terrific! I was able to pop in briefly and watch them being created (on Ustream)- such an amazing process! They are so deceptively simple and enchanting, yet require a myriad of skills. Well done! Peace and War in the 20th Century | Peace and War in the 20th Century - 3 views

"The twentieth century has been a century of war. It began with the Boer War in South Africa and ended with the Gulf War in Kuwait and Iraq. This tragic legacy suggests that citizens of the twenty-first century have a shared responsibility to attempt to understand how and why these conflicts occurred and to discover how peace efforts contributed to the resolution of international conflicts. "

Primary sources devoted to helping people understand why the C20th was a time of such visceral conflict. If you believe Niall Ferguson it had to do with ethnic diversity in regions of deteriorating economic conditions and declining imperial control. My high school history teacher reckoned it was ideologies. Many of you will no doubt have other ideas...

"The Library holds 90,000 old pamphlets, many published in the 19th century or the early part of the 20th century. This is primary source material, published and written by pressure groups, political parties and individual campaigners." I'm getting lazy, letting the sources speak for themselves. Oh well.

Dead Sea Scrolls - Qumran Library - 1 views

  •
Images and translations of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
  •
The scrolls and scroll fragments recovered in the Qumran environs represent a voluminous body of Jewish documents, a veritable "library", dating from the third century B.C.E. to 68 C.E. Unquestionably, the "library," which is the greatest manuscript find of the twentieth century, demonstrates the rich literary activity of Second Temple Period Jewry and sheds insight into centuries pivotal to both Judaism and Christianity.

China in the 20th Century - 11 views

  •
At the beginning of the 20th century, China was divided into sphere of influence with each powerful Western nation trying to exert as much control over it as possible. The Chinese resented foreigners control and expressed this at the beginning of the 20th century with the Boxer Rebellion. At the same time, the traditional government of China began to fail in the early years. The Chinese people, being resentful of foreigners and dissatisfied with inability of the present government to throw them out, initiated the Revolution of 1911, replacing the Chinese 2000 year old imperial system with the Republic of China headed by Sun Yat-sen.

Pilgrims and Progress: How Magazines Made Thanksgiving - 4 views

  •
This academically rigorous article may be beyond even the highest functioning AP US History students. But all teachers will find this article aiming a question directly at their curriculum - Do you teach a myth as a cultural affirmation? The essay argues that "traveling home to turkey and all the trimmings was "invented", not in 17th century Massachusetts, but in 19th century Philadelphia in the pages of the nation's most widely circulated magazines and in respond to the changing American scene. Two hundred years after the Pilgrims' quit commemorations, Thanksgiving developed a uniform national profile, impelled by its promoters ideas about republican identity, ideas diffused by a publishing industry with increasingly national reach"

"The Great Britain Historical Database is a large database of British nineteenth and twentieth-century statistics. A significant amount of work has gone into integrating the referencing of spatial units, and where practical assembling data for different dates into single tables." You can use it for free, with some limitations on the amount of information you can retrieve. Very valuable though as in my experience it's hard to get a hold of historical statistics.
