The Historical Thinking Project was designed to foster a new approach to history education - with the potential to shift how teachers teach and how students learn, in line with recent international research on history learning. It revolves around the proposition that historical thinking - like scientific thinking in science instruction and mathematical thinking in math instruction - is central to history instruction and that students should become more competent as historical thinkers as they progress through their schooling.

I recently did a class called "I Hear America Singing" which looked at historical events through songs. The students (adult seniors) loved it. I didn't know about this site when I did it -- I collected my own. I hear another class coming... Thanks for finding this!

The Virtual Field Trip is a field trip that students and teachers take via the Internet.  A great benefit of this activity is that it utilizes technology tools to help students visualize and understand subject matter through exploration and active learning. It's also a great way to "travel" without leaving your classroom! Look for sites with QuickTime VR, which allows you to view panoramic views of your virtual field trip location.

Documents via website have annotations. Documents, images, and audio can be searched by time period starting with the earliest of times. Site recommended by Turning Point Learning Center.
