Great article along with an infographic on the usage of social network in US education "Wikis are an excellent tool for open collaboration and knowledge sharing because they allow everyone to contribute. Roughly 22 percent of United States school districts are involved in creating or maintaining wikis. Educational wikis give teachers and students a place to contribute to the community on the ideas and projects they are working on in the classroom. Wikis teach students how teamwork and collaboration benefit society through knowledge sharing."

Good article that plainly states, Web 2.0 and 3.0 are tools that if used properly can engage and effect teaching and learning beyond traditional classroom spaces.

Steve Hargadon (http://www.stevehargadon.com/p/about-me.html) is hosting one-day events called Hack Your Education all across the US (Boston on Nov 2-3!). He wants to teach students, parents, and teachers how to use Web 2.0 technologies to create your own personal learning path / resources / plan.

There are many courses to choose from in various subject matters. Creating Interactive Multimedia & Web 2.0 in the Education section looked especially interesting to me.

TV Tropes is being very transparent about creating a moderation system for the content. This is in response to loosing advertising dollars from Google. It is interesting to see the outline for their model of moderating content. Some of these elements could be used in a web 2.0 environment for education

This site is an invaluable collection of Web 2.0 Tools for educators. On this Wikispace are links to free sites that provide teachers with some exciting and engaging tools. It is now possible to easily create SMS-based real-time responses to discussion questions, allow students to easily create Flash-based cartoons and Flash-based online posters with a ton of functionality, and even create beats online that they can then record text over (perfect for my "Romeo and Juilet Rap" assignment). Links to all of these tools and more are available from this site.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and four nonprofit education organizations are investing to accelerate the development online learning tools. According to Mr. Gates, "Innovation is our only hope", and "And the nly new game in town is Technology."

The link within the article to the hybrid education 2.0 article really speaks to the new "badge" movement online. What they say makes sense in support for these. Will be interesting to see how this evolves.

This recent episode of "The Simpsons" addresses, incidentally (and in a way characteristic of the show), some of the issues we discussed in class. Nothing terribly profound, but I thought it had an amusing satire of modern teacher education programs.

This is an interesting talk which shares techniques that journalists use to determine fact from fiction. Could be very useful for teaching critical thinking skills.

Really interesting and definitely related to developing critical thinking skills. However, the idea that someone can crosscheck sources using Google maps to identify locations makes me wonder about how journalism in a web 2.0 ecology impacts privacy.
