Practical steps to compliance with HIPAA Computer Policy - 0 views

  •
Practical steps to compliance with HIPAA Computer Policy: That the HIPAA has a clear and stringent policy on computers is absolutely understandable, because computers constitute the very soul of HIPAA. Ensuring security of patient data is one of the core causes for which HIPAA was enacted; so, it is only natural that Computer Policy should be at the center of HIPAA compliance. A HIPAA Computer Policy rule came into effect in 2005. The nub of this enactment is to ensure that there are technical, physical and administrative security procedures that must be adhered with. These are meant for Covered Entities to ensure that the data they have of patients, namely electronic Protected Health Information (PHI) is safe and secure. Understand the reason for HIPAA Computer Policy Any implementation has to start with an understanding of the rationale for the action, right? The same goes for something as important and big as implementation of HIPAA compliance into systems. HIPAA Computer Policy is in place for a specific and critical reason protection of patient data, loss of which can lead to hefty penalties that can affect the business very adversely. So, installing the necessary protections is the first step to protecting vital data and with it, one's own business or practice, as well. Implement a sound access policy A strong access policy is at the heart of HIPAA Computer Policy. It is in the computer systems that all the data relating to the patient are stored. So, making sure who in the organization has access to these and how and when, is very important. Not only should access be restricted to only designated and permitted personnel in the organization; there should be a system by which tracking of access is easily determined. This is to find out who accessed which record, when, what action followed, what happened as a result of this access, and so on. Keep a record of all system components This is another step to ensuring compliance with HIPAA Computer Po

HIPAA Audits for 2016 - How to Prepare for the New Round of HIPAA Audits - 0 views

  •
Overview: In this session we will discuss the HIPAA audit and enforcement programs and how they work, and discuss the areas that caused the most issues in prior audits. We will explore what kind of issues and what kind of entities had the most problems, and show where entities need to improve their compliance the most. We will also explore the typical risk issues that lead to breaches of health information and see how those issues may be a target for auditors in the new 2016 audits. We will review the contents of the HIPAA Audit Protocol used in 2012 to show what documentation needs to be on hand should your organization be selected for an audit in the new round. We will present methods for using the contents of the HIPAA Audit Protocol to build your own compliance plan by extracting and updating the contents and relating your compliance activities directly to the questions that might be asked. In this session we will discuss the HIPAA audit and enforcement regulations and processes, and how they apply to HIPAA covered entities and business associates. We will explain the enforcement regulations and the new, increased fines and new penalty levels, including new penalties for willful neglect of compliance that begin at $10,000. We will discuss what information and documentation must be prepared in advance so that you can be ready for an audit at any time, including sample information request forms and questions asked at prior audits. The session will also cover how to know if you may become the subject of an audit or enforcement action, and what you can do to help limit your exposure. We will discuss how most enforcement actions come about and what can be done to prevent incidents that lead to enforcement activity. The HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification regulations (and the recent changes to them) and how they will be audited will be explained. Documentation requirements for compliance will be explored and a framework of security policies necessary

We'll help you understand how medical practices will be paid in the future for services to Medicare patients. You'll be asked to choose between two paths. If you choose to participate with other providers in an Advanced Payment Model, the larger organization will be paid for services provided and determine how to share those payments as well as any cost savings among the participants. If you choose the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), your payment rate will vary based on how you perform on a variety of Medicare Quality Programs - PQRS, VBM, Meaningful Use and a 4th new component focused on Quality Improvement. You'll want to know as much as possible about the pros and cons of each option and how to make the right choice for your practice. Why should you Attend: Under the MACRA legislation, your providers will need to choose between participating in an Advanced Payment Model (APM) or participating in the new Merit-Based Incentive Payment System. Making the wrong choice can result in significant reductions in your future Medicare payments. You'll want to understand the options and have a plan in place by January 1, 2017 - that's only 6 months away. Areas Covered in the Session: Learn the requirements of the new MACRA legislation and how it will impact your Medicare payments in 2019 and beyond Find out what you need to be doing now to ensure you don't lose Medicare revenue in future years Understand the options - APM vs MIPS - and how your Medicare payments can increase or decrease under each model Identify what aspects of the new payment methodology are written into the legislation, what has been released through proposed regulations and when final rules are expected. Key Factors to Write an Effective Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Work I... - 0 views

Course "Key Factors to Write an Effective Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Work Instructions (WIs)" has been pre-approved by RAPS as eligible for up to 12 credits towards a participant's RAC recertification upon full completion. Overview: Writing SOPs or procedural documents can be challenging at times. However, writing SOPs is overall a straightforward process. However, enforcing what you already created and implemented in the pipeline is another story. The term SOP is very obvious. We have seen "clearly written description of how specific tasks are to be done." Another satisfactory definition would be "detailed written instructions that achieve the uniformity of the performance of a specific function." Is the firm doing what the regulations specify? Is the firm doing what their procedures specify? If you are medical device or a pharmaceutical manufacturer, these definitions come as no surprise because when it comes to FDA regulations and guidance documents "establish" means to define, to document (in writing or electronically) and to implement. The goal and emphasis with FDA is simple. Proof of "Establish" is the foundation. Is the firm doing what the regulations specify? Is the firm doing what their procedures specify? Are the procedures being followed and enforced by company personnel? SOPs are needed in regulated industries to give step-by-step instructions for performing a particular job or task. This session will provide a step-by-step overview and a snapshot of the procedure description, the process and format. The subject matter of a SOP may range from how to operate a piece of machinery to how to log into a particular software program. SOPs ensure consistency and reliability because they require training of all affected parties. This session will address recent enforcement actions for SOP related violations but no surprise. Most of our enforcement actions are documentation related, i.e., SOP or other procedural documents. We will review examples from

Pediatric Wheelchair - 0 views

A Pediatric Wheelchair is a very important piece of mobility equipment for any patient. There are many instances where a patient would find himself in need of one, no just in cases of long-term disability. Upon admittance and discharge from the hospital, a patient is wheeled around. Those with temporary hurts to their lower extremities will also need a Pediatric Wheelchair for a short time. No matter the reasons for needing a Pediatric Wheelchair, many will find themselves looking for the right one for themselves, their patients, or for their medical care facility. For a pediatrician seeking to prescribe a Pediatric Wheelchair, must be sure that the patient has the proper upper body strength to use one. If the patient is too weak for self movement, the practitioner would be better to consider a powered wheelchair for mobility. While Pediatric Wheelchairs are smaller and can be just as manuverable as scooters, that depends upon the patient's own abilities in steering the chair. These are factors that the doctor must think about before recommending what type of wheelchair a patient should get. Ergonomic Wheelchair often spend a lot of time leaning on armrests or a table exactly because they are not being supported with good posture in their chairs. This is a matter of seat angle and back angle, adjusting them according to body shape and degree of upper body balance. Poor seating makes slump, trying to get stable. The optimal posture is more upright, allowing spine to support. Ergonomic chairs are designed to confirm to a person's physical dimensions, allowing them to sit naturally and comfortably for long periods of time, while reducing the risk of pressure ulcers. Ergonomic system (Intelligent s-shaped ergonomic seating) provides efficient pressure relief by spreading weight over a greater area, at the same time provides stabilization and reduced sliding. With their lightweight frames and seats designed to reduce or prevent pressure points, ergonomic wheelchairs provide a comfortable option for mobility impaired users who have the upper body strength to propel themselves, or a caregiver strong enough to do so. Get Ready For Your HIPAA Compliance Audit - 0 views

  •
Overview: The webinar will concentrate on topics that HHS has announced will be the focus of the first round of "desk audits". They reflect significant areas of non-compliance revealed in the 2012 pilot audits and HHS HIPAA violation investigations concluded by Resolution Agreements and Corrective Action Plans. They include: HIPAA Risk Analysis Risk Management based on Risk Analysis Breach Notification Notice of Privacy Practices (for Covered Entities) Minimum Necessary Standard Access of Individuals to their PHI Authorizations Workforce Training This webinar is vital because, in focusing on preparation for a HIPAA Compliance Audit, Covered Entities and Business Associates may review, prioritize and structure their HIPAA Compliance programs. If you have HIPAA Compliance documentation ready to submit on two weeks notice to HHS you are implementing an effective HIPAA Compliance program. In addition, every Covered Entity or Business Associate may face an HHS HIPAA Compliance investigation at any time due to a complaint or a Breach. If you are "audit ready" you will be ready for an investigation - and better able to avoid complaints and prevent breaches. Why should you attend: Every Covered Entity and Business Associate is liable - without prior notice - to be audited for HIPAA Compliance by HHS You will have only 2 weeks after receiving your HIPAA Compliance Audit notification and data request to upload all requested documents to an HHS HIPAA Compliance Audit Portal The HIPAA Compliance Audit data request you receive will specify content and file organization, file names and any other document submission requirements Auditors will not contact an audited entity for clarifications or ask for additional information - it is essential that submitted documents are current, accurately reflect the entity's HIPAA Compliance program and demonstrate HIPAA Compliance Only data submitted on time will be assessed Failure to respond on time may be referred to the HHS regional

Hospital Management -a completely specialized profession - 0 views

  •
Hospital Management : The growth and development of hospitals has led to an altogether specialized discipline -hospital management. Hospital management is about coordinating the various functions of a hospital and ensuring optimal healthcare to patients and other stakeholders. Hospital Management has come a long way from being a supplementary duty that senior doctors handled with ease, to being a full-fledged specialization in itself. Hospital management is an altogether fully developed specialist profession whose managers are well qualified. Many institutions today offer courses on hospital management. The relationship of hospital management to the area of management rather than to the medical field can be understood from the fact that many hospital managers are from a purely management background, and have little knowledge of medical science. Many hospital management institutions offer an MBA. They also offer courses on specialized subunits of hospital management, such as hospital financial management, healthcare system management, hospital human resources management, etc. This is because hospitals have evolved over time. They are now ultra-specialist healthcare providers that use the latest technologies. A hospital could use anything from billing software to highly sophisticated technology used in its medical devices. A hospital management specialist needs to be not only aware of these uses; she also needs to be/have all these: A good administrator who handles staff; A deep knowledge of the information systems; A good grip on all the systems that need to be coordinated thoroughly if the hospital needs to function smoothly without any hassles; Dealing with facilities for patients. Hospital Management can thus be understood as being the facilitator between a healthcare setting and those who need these services. It is about ensuring that all the administrative elements of a healthcare setting function in unison to ensure provision of accountable healthcare.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Therapeutics Market is Expanding Rapidly as AstraZeneca re... - 0 views

  •
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is a cancerous disease in which cancer cells begin to multiply in the lymph cells. CLL is aggressive cancer that invades the lymphatic system and attacks healthy cells of the immune system. It typically affects the lymph nodes and T cells, although it can also affect any other cells in the human body. The combination of chemotherapy is aimed at destroying cancer cells while at the same time allowing the body's immune system to restore the damaged cells. This allows for a more rapid response to the infection and better overall outcomes. As a result of this combination, chemotherapy is often used to treat several types of cancer at one time. It has been very successful in achieving results against most types of cancer. The targeted drugs are given to make the cancer cells unable to multiply and thus stop their growth. Increasing prevalence of leukemia is expected to drive growth of the global chronic lymphocytic leukemia therapeutics market during the forecast period. According to the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common type of leukemia in adults aged 19 years and above with 37% of cases. According to the same source, around 21,040 new cases and 4,060 deaths are expected to occur in 2020 due to CLL in the U.S. Furthermore, according to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLC), in 2020, around 60,530 people are expected to be diagnosed with leukemia in the U.S. Such a high prevalence of CLL and leukemia has increased the demand for necessary therapeutics such as chemotherapy. How VR has Revolutionized Gaming Industry? - 0 views

  •
Virtual reality technology in gaming is the active application of a three-dimensional (3D) artificial environment to computer games. The VR environment is created with the help of VR software and specialized devices and offered to the end user in such a way that it supersedes the real-world environment. This way, it creates a suspension of disbelief and allows a user to experience the VR environment. There three major technologies included in VR gaming namely head-mounted displays, which are very popular and have the same quality of video as the traditional gaming monitor, and surround sound systems that will produce a surround sound experience. The third type of technology is motion-based games. In this system, the gamer is tracked by the game and can move around the environment. With these types of systems, you can move around the virtual world with your head movement but if you are playing the traditional games this isn't possible and you will feel like you are inside a compute. Market Drivers Growing availability of theme-based and griping games in VR format is expected to drive growth of the virtual reality in gaming market during the forecast period. Many gaming companies are focused on introducing novel PC and console-based games in VR format, in order to provide an immersive and enhanced experience to end users. For instance, in August 2019, VRGO Ltd., a U.K.-based VR company, introduced VRGO MINI, a gaming chain accessory for users to enjoy intuitive and comfortable seated movement. Therefore, such factors are expected to drive growth of the virtual reality in gaming market during the forecast period. Moreover, increasing disposable income is expected to propel the virtual reality in gaming market growth over the forecast period. According to the World Bank, in 2018, national income per capita was US$ 9,290, which increased from US$ 7,627 in 2008. Endoscopic Stricture Management Device Market to Grow Rapidly as Olympus Corporation La... - 0 views

  •
Endoscopy is a procedure that has been developed to assist in the removal of endometriosis from the human body. Endoscopy is also being used to help in the treatment of gallstones, cholecystitis, and gastric reflux disease among a number of other conditions. The recent developments in this industry have been driven by changes in government regulation and legislation. The increase in the number of malignancies and the introduction of fiscal policy in the region has resulted in political will on the part of the governments to strengthen public health services. Rising product approval for endoscopy devices by regulatory authorities is expected to drive growth of the global endoscopic stricture management device market during the forecast period. For instance, in January 2020, Pentax Medical received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its Imagina Endoscopy System, which will be used in performing gastrointestinal procedures, digital image enhancement system with Pentax i-Scan. This endoscopy machine is equipped with an LED touch-screen interface, which removes the need for periodic bulb replacement. Besides, it is far more cost-efficient than the GI endoscopy system such as video endoscopy. Thus. These factors are expected to drive growth of the global endoscopic stricture management device market during the forecast period. Furthermore, increasing incidence of bleeding during surgical procedures combined with growing number of endoscopic procedures is expected to boost the global endoscopic stricture management device market growth over the forecast period. However, the lack of skilled healthcare professionals to perform surgical procedures, especially in emerging economies combined with complications related to endoscopic procedures such as bleeding and infection is expected to hamper the global endoscopic stricture management device market growth over the forecast period. Cognitive computing materials refer to computer-based technologies that use machine learning algorithms to emulate how the human brain operates. Eventually, this emerging technology will facilitate the production of artificially intelligent computer systems that are capable of resolving issues without the aid of human assistance. One very exciting use for these artificially intelligent software programs is the development of new businesses. Cognitive computing is particularly useful for assisting humans in the business domain such as those in finance, supply chain management, customer service, and product development. The key challenge in implementing artificial intelligence or cognitive computing technologies is to create a system that can work without direct interaction from humans. For instance, the data analysis systems used by banks are able to operate even without the presence of bank employees. The banks have now leveraged the power of artificial intelligence to make their analytical work much faster and more efficient. In the near future, self-driving cars with artificially intelligent drivers will be seen in the streets of our cities, allowing individuals to commute safely between points.
