Demand for Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy Surges as Patients Suffering from COVID... - 0 views

  •
Chronic renal failure, or renal overload, is associated with a variety of morbidity and mortality and is a major challenge in the clinical treatment of patients with chronic renal failure. This disease has no cure and can be managed with specific medications in an appropriate course of therapy. However, in patients for whom other therapies have been ineffective or who are experiencing life-threatening side effects, continuous renal substitute therapy (CRS) is the only feasible treatment. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) is a type of blood purification therapy used in the treatment of patients with acute kidney injury. The therapy is commonly used to provide renal support for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury, particularly patients who are hemodynamically unstable. Emergence of COVID-19 has led to increasing adoption of CRRT as patients with Covid-19 are experiencing multiple organ failure, including acute kidney injury. Moreover, regulatory bodies are also focused on approval and launch of new CRRT devices. For instance, in April 2020, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted marketing authorization for a new device indicated to provide continuous hemodialysis or hemofiltration therapy to critically ill pediatric patients weighing between 2.5 and 10 kilograms (or 5.5 to 22 pounds). Healthcare Rehabilitation is a vast field - 0 views

  •
Healthcare Rehabilitation is a vast field: The field of healthcare rehabilitation is very vast and expansive. In traditional societies, most commonly relatable to the Orient and Africa, there is the ages-old cultural belief that it is the duty of children to take care of their parents when they age. On the contrary, for us in the west, healthcare rehabilitation has emerged as a specialized branch of healthcare because of the emphasis our society places on independence of the individual. Healthcare rehabilitation is a product of social mores: Younger generations of people are not expected to spend entire years, as may be the case in some families, to look after people of their previous generations who may be in need of medical care. It is on this outlook towards life of our society that healthcare rehabilitation has come into being. However, it is also possible that younger people could also be in need of healthcare rehabilitation. Even such people are put in the care of healthcare providers which offer these services. The divisions of healthcare rehabilitation: Branching out as a fully developed field of healthcare, healthcare rehabilitation has many specializations. These are broadly the areas in which healthcare rehabilitation is offered: General rehabilitation: General rehabilitation of some or another kind is a primary aspect of healthcare rehabilitation. Those in need of this kind of care typically include patients who have lost their ability to carry out day-to-day tasks such as talking, walking, brushing, eating, etc. many a time, depending on the nature of the ailment, rehabilitation could include therapies, exercises and other activities aimed at bringing in some element of mobility in the patient. This kind of healthcare rehabilitation could also include taking care to revive the patient's memory, when patients with diseases like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's are admitted for healthcare rehabilitation. Skilled nursing: An area in which a skilled and

Patient quality and safety in healthcare is vital - 0 views

  •
Patient quality and safety in healthcare: Patient quality and safety are core aspects of healthcare. They need to be administered and assessed in the backdrop of a variety of factors. Many healthcare professionals see patient quality and safety in healthcare as being part of the broad canopy of healthcare. There is some disagreement and confusion as to the exact meaning of the terms patient quality and safety, but that is only when it comes to semantics. In broad terms, one can understand patient quality and safety in healthcare as efforts and steps and processes meant to improve the quality care given to patients. Patient quality and safety in healthcare relates chiefly to: Improving the safety of patients and augmenting the quality of health care in the various areas of health Bringing about a reduction in infections that are sometimes a byproduct of provision of health care Reduction in the incidence of adverse drug events Quality healthcare, of which patient quality and safety in healthcare are an integral part, is defined as "…doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right person, and having the best possible result" by The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The AHRQ also describes patient safety as "the act of doing no harm", and which "…underlies all aspects of quality health care." Measuring patient quality and safety: Measuring patient quality and safety in healthcare is of utmost importance because no system or practice is meaningful unless it is capable of being measured. The level and success of patient quality and safety in healthcare is measured against the following parameters: How many patients who underwent surgery experienced infections? How many patients were required to be admitted for a second or subsequent time following discharge from hospital because of complications such as infections or recurrence of the problems for which the patient was admitted? To what extent did the healthcare

Grant Writing 201: How to Write Compelling Prose, Stay Within Page Count and Not Compro... - 0 views

  •
Overview: In this webinar, Hope will present the lessons she's learned over her career as a grant writer and editor in medical research. By identifying simple solutions to common problems, participants will learn tools to improve their ability create competitive grant applications and increase their academic and research productivity. To write compelling grant applications, this webinar will cover: How your choice of words will help you stay within page limits without compromising the science How to minimize abbreviations to improve readability and respect reviewer time constraints How to use Microsoft Word efficiently to improve page layout and readability How to manage references by enlisting online databases and reference management software How and when to stop developing the content to meet both grantor and institutional deadlines Why should you Attend: Many Grant Writing workshops do not teach writing per se. Though useful for beginning grant writers, most focus on understanding the application process and the various sections of a grant. For participants wanting to learn to actually write a grant, they are often left to figure out the technique for themselves. In addition, funding opportunity applications (FOAs) have changed quite rapidly in the past few years and require more focused writing in fewer pages. Competition has increased as budgets have shrunk, and knowing how to make the most out of both the time and the length of a grant project can prove challenging and extremely stressful. This webinar is for both new and experienced grant writers, either scientists and principal investigators or writers and other support staff. By using common resources (MS Word, EndNote, PubMed), the webinar content is designed to help grant-writing teams increase their efficiency in the writing process and also meet the requirements of the FOAs. Plus, plain language and good writing practices taught in this webinar will ensure straight-forward, content-rich, and well

Clinical Documentation Improvement - 0 views

  •
Overview:   Review 6 points of high quality evidence based clinical documentation Review of 7 criteria that all entries in a patient record should include Impact of documentation on coding and claims Impact on audits and ability to defend an audit When an audit is initiated, the completeness of documentation becomes critical in the ability to support what you have reported. Let's take a look at areas in which weaknesses are often found.  Why should you Attend:  The granularity and accuracy of the ICD-10 code set is supported by quality clinical documentation. It is anticipated that payers will increasingly become less flexible in allowing non-specific codes. The use of unspecified codes will likely lead to rejected claims if it is possible to report the more definitive condition. In most cases, unspecified should not be reported unless there is clear evidence to support the inability to report the detailed option.  Is your E & M level supported in the documentation? If you have never experienced scrutiny of your billing patterns by payers and other entities, you may not be aware of weaknesses that lead to recovery of funds or other costly consequences. Your documentation will be key in supporting diagnoses, service codes and acuity of the patient. It is not just payers who engage in audits. Others include State medical boards, Qui Tam and possible reporting of questionable practices by patients. Do your billing patterns and documentation stand up under reporting scrutiny? This presentation will review areas in which you may not be as strong as you think!  Areas Covered in the Session: Significance of abnormal lab results Measurement of lesions, when taken and inclusion of margins Start & stop times & methodology for infusions & discrepancies in billing Diagnostic testing and medications should be supported in a diagnosis Depth of wounds and cause should be clear Severity of illness Diagnosis present on admission? Who Will Benefit: Coders Billers Rev

Emergence of Covid-19 Increases Cases of Mania and Depression, Thereby Boosting Demand ... - 0 views

  •
Anti-suicide drugs are the most commonly used pharmaceuticals that are prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia and other mood disorders. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved these medications in 1970. They are usually called antipsychotic medications. Although they are very helpful in controlling both the mania and depression, this medicine can prove to be very dangerous if taken in high doses even without an anesthetic. These medications are meant for temporary use only, therefore, care should be taken when using it so as not to cause any harmful side effects on the patient's health. Hence, people who have other illnesses should avoid using these medications. Antidepressants such as Clomipramine and Anafranil (Anafranil or Elavil) are some of the most commonly prescribed medications in the treatment for acute and chronic pain. They are effective in relieving the patient's discomfort and can also help him to come up with his life. However, there are reported cases where patients have experienced severe side effects such as confusion, hallucinations, drowsiness, dizziness, agitation, insomnia, and pupil contraction. Some patients may also experience headache, upset stomach, nausea, and diarrhea. Although these medications are very effective, they also have a number of side effects on the patient's health such as irregular heartbeat, blurred vision, and chest pain. Medications such as Carbamazepine, Lamotrigine, and Phenytoin are also known anti-suicide drugs. These medications act in a different way from other types of drugs. They work by altering the protein structures of neurons in the brain. Because of this, the patient's level of consciousness also differs from the patient who takes conventional antidepressant medications. An insight into continuous peripheral nerve block catheter and how it is used in admini... - 0 views

  •
Continuous peripheral nerve block catheter is a new technology of using catheters for intravenous insertion into the upper and lower extremities. As a result, this new technology is being used worldwide in various health care facilities for various procedures including cardiac catheterization, nerve blockage, and venous stasis ulceration. As such, there are many medical centers and hospitals that offer a wide variety of advantages offered by continuous peripheral nerve block catheters. As mentioned above, there are many benefits offered by a continuous peripheral nerve block catheter. These are mainly due to the wide variety of reasons as stated above that include: catheter introductions with less invasive techniques; better outcomes for patients; and fewer complications experienced by catheter users. The biggest advantage of using this technique compared to other procedures is its cost-effectiveness. High Prevalence of Primary Biliary Cholangitis and Approval and Launch of New Drugs to ... - 0 views

  •
Primary biliary cholangitis, also known as primary biliary cirrhosis, is an autoimmune disease of the liver. The auto-immune disorder can have a number of symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, liver tenderness or enlargement, jaundice, and ascites. In most of these symptoms, the patient may be experiencing inflammation at an early stage of the illness, although in some cases, symptoms do not appear until the disease has advanced to a more serious state. A definitive diagnosis can only be made by performing blood tests and ultrasound studies in order to determine the progression of the illness and its effects on the body. At an early stage, most patients who experience mild to moderate symptoms of primary biliary cholangitis exhibit no symptoms, whereas in some cases, symptoms manifest very quickly and rapidly worsen. In both conditions, the majority of affected individuals undergo treatment that is aimed at relieving pain and treating any complications that might occur. High prevalence of primary biliary cholangitis is expected to propel growth of the primary biliary cirrhosis drugs market. For instance, according to the study, 'Epidemiology and clinical course of primary biliary cholangitis in the Asia-Pacific region: a systematic review and meta-analysis', published in Hepatology International in September 2019, the overall prevalence of primary biliary cholangitis was 118.75 cases per million in the Asia Pacific region, with the high, medium and low prevalence being in Japan and China (191.18 cases per million), New Zealand (99.16 cases per million) and South Korea and Australia (39.09 cases per million), respectively. Rapid Growth on Kidney Stone Management Devices Market 2021 by New Market Opportunities... - 0 views

  •
Kidney stones, also known as renal calculi, occur when the liquid stored in the kidneys becomes too concentrated. The stone, once lodged in the urinary tract, obstructs the urine flow from it and causes great pain in the abdomen. Other symptoms of a kidney stone include a burning sensation or an intense desire to urinate frequently. Also experiencing frequent urge to pass urine. Kidney stones can be treated effectively, due to presence of advanced methods and associated medical devices. Kidney stone management devices are widely used to retrieve kidney stones. Increasing prevalence of kidney stones and the increasing preference for minimally invasive surgeries worldwide is expected to propel the growth of the kidney stone management devices market. For instance, according to the United States National Kidney Foundation, every year, more than half a million people go to emergency rooms for kidney stone problems. It is estimated that one in ten people will have a kidney stone at some time in their lives. Moreover, increasing product launches, technological advancements, and increasing research and development activities for the prevention and treatment of kidney stones is expected to augment the growth of the kidney stone management devices market. For instance, in August 2020, Dornier MedTech (Dornier) announced the launch of UroX, a community that connects professionals from various disciplines to cultivate innovation and solve the most pressing challenges in urology.
