Get Ready For Your HIPAA Compliance Audit - 0 views

  •
Overview: The webinar will concentrate on topics that HHS has announced will be the focus of the first round of "desk audits". They reflect significant areas of non-compliance revealed in the 2012 pilot audits and HHS HIPAA violation investigations concluded by Resolution Agreements and Corrective Action Plans. They include: HIPAA Risk Analysis Risk Management based on Risk Analysis Breach Notification Notice of Privacy Practices (for Covered Entities) Minimum Necessary Standard Access of Individuals to their PHI Authorizations Workforce Training This webinar is vital because, in focusing on preparation for a HIPAA Compliance Audit, Covered Entities and Business Associates may review, prioritize and structure their HIPAA Compliance programs. If you have HIPAA Compliance documentation ready to submit on two weeks notice to HHS you are implementing an effective HIPAA Compliance program. In addition, every Covered Entity or Business Associate may face an HHS HIPAA Compliance investigation at any time due to a complaint or a Breach. If you are "audit ready" you will be ready for an investigation - and better able to avoid complaints and prevent breaches. Why should you attend: Every Covered Entity and Business Associate is liable - without prior notice - to be audited for HIPAA Compliance by HHS You will have only 2 weeks after receiving your HIPAA Compliance Audit notification and data request to upload all requested documents to an HHS HIPAA Compliance Audit Portal The HIPAA Compliance Audit data request you receive will specify content and file organization, file names and any other document submission requirements Auditors will not contact an audited entity for clarifications or ask for additional information - it is essential that submitted documents are current, accurately reflect the entity's HIPAA Compliance program and demonstrate HIPAA Compliance Only data submitted on time will be assessed Failure to respond on time may be referred to the HHS regional

How to Perform a HIPAA Risk Assessment - 0 views

  •
Overview: The primary goal of this session is to demonstrate why the health care organization needs to perform a risk assessment and how to perform the risk assessment. This includes a description of the types of breaches of protected health information that have already occurred and the reasons those breaches happened. The presentation then provides that reasons that a risk assessment is required in a health care organization and who needs to perform the assessment. There are a number of approaches available both for purchase on the web and performed by professionals on site. This discussion helps the participant determine which approach is best for their health care organization and what portions of the assessment are most important to the organization. The topic addresses the key components of a risk assessment and how to perform the risk assessment. This includes how to define the specific risks, how to know, how to assess the likelihood and impact of the risk and the final determination on the level of severity of the risk for the organization. Finally, the session explains how to interpret the results of the risk assessment, how to use the results of the risk assessment for preparing the health care organization's policies and procedures and how to conduct the HIPAA training for its staff. Why should you attend: In addition to the negative publicity and potential fines, a breach of a patient's health information often leads to litigation which is also time consuming and costly. The way to avoid these situations is to perform a Risk Assessment to understand where the health care organization is risk of an unauthorized breach and provide a basis for becoming HIPAA compliant. There are three reasons why a Risk Assessment is necessary: First, both the HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations require a Risk Assessment for the organization to be HIPAA compliant Second, as a result of the Risk Assessment the organization knows where it needs to address its effo

Healthcare Rehabilitation is a vast field - 0 views

Healthcare Rehabilitation is a vast field: The field of healthcare rehabilitation is very vast and expansive. In traditional societies, most commonly relatable to the Orient and Africa, there is the ages-old cultural belief that it is the duty of children to take care of their parents when they age. On the contrary, for us in the west, healthcare rehabilitation has emerged as a specialized branch of healthcare because of the emphasis our society places on independence of the individual. Healthcare rehabilitation is a product of social mores: Younger generations of people are not expected to spend entire years, as may be the case in some families, to look after people of their previous generations who may be in need of medical care. It is on this outlook towards life of our society that healthcare rehabilitation has come into being. However, it is also possible that younger people could also be in need of healthcare rehabilitation. Even such people are put in the care of healthcare providers which offer these services. The divisions of healthcare rehabilitation: Branching out as a fully developed field of healthcare, healthcare rehabilitation has many specializations. These are broadly the areas in which healthcare rehabilitation is offered: General rehabilitation: General rehabilitation of some or another kind is a primary aspect of healthcare rehabilitation. Those in need of this kind of care typically include patients who have lost their ability to carry out day-to-day tasks such as talking, walking, brushing, eating, etc. many a time, depending on the nature of the ailment, rehabilitation could include therapies, exercises and other activities aimed at bringing in some element of mobility in the patient. This kind of healthcare rehabilitation could also include taking care to revive the patient's memory, when patients with diseases like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's are admitted for healthcare rehabilitation. Medical Staff Bylaws Requirements For Joint Commission Accreditation - 0 views

  •
Overview: Joint Commission standards set a high bar for hospital medical staff bylaws. Since the 2011 changes to MS 01.01.01, bylaws must meet 37 elements of performance including hearing provisions, credentialing requirements, department director duties and more. But don't stop there-additional requirements are scattered through other Joint Commission standards. Each standard, element of performance and their quirks will be addressed and means of compliance explored. Why should you Attend: Joint Commission accreditation, sought by the overwhelming majority of American hospitals, hinges upon compliance with the Standards and their Elements of Performance set forth in the Joint Commission Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. Some of the most complex, detailed standards involve medical staff bylaws provisions and processes. Federal legal requirements change frequently in ways that unexpectedly affect these Joint Commission standards. This webinar addresses the most up -to-date Joint Commission requirements and industry best practices for medical staff bylaws compliance. Areas Covered in the Session: Joint Commission Standards for Hospitals Medical Staff Bylaws Hospital accreditation requirements Who Will Benefit: Medical Staff President Bylaws Committee Chair Chief Medical Officer Vice President of Medical Affairs Chief of Staff Director of Medical Staff Medical Staff Attorney Hospital Counsel Medical Staff Manager Speaker Profile Elizabeth A. Key Factors to Write an Effective Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Work I... - 0 views

Course "Key Factors to Write an Effective Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Work Instructions (WIs)" has been pre-approved by RAPS as eligible for up to 12 credits towards a participant's RAC recertification upon full completion. Overview: Writing SOPs or procedural documents can be challenging at times. However, writing SOPs is overall a straightforward process. However, enforcing what you already created and implemented in the pipeline is another story. The term SOP is very obvious. We have seen "clearly written description of how specific tasks are to be done." Another satisfactory definition would be "detailed written instructions that achieve the uniformity of the performance of a specific function." Is the firm doing what the regulations specify? Is the firm doing what their procedures specify? If you are medical device or a pharmaceutical manufacturer, these definitions come as no surprise because when it comes to FDA regulations and guidance documents "establish" means to define, to document (in writing or electronically) and to implement. The goal and emphasis with FDA is simple. Proof of "Establish" is the foundation. Is the firm doing what the regulations specify? Is the firm doing what their procedures specify? Are the procedures being followed and enforced by company personnel? SOPs are needed in regulated industries to give step-by-step instructions for performing a particular job or task. This session will provide a step-by-step overview and a snapshot of the procedure description, the process and format. The subject matter of a SOP may range from how to operate a piece of machinery to how to log into a particular software program. SOPs ensure consistency and reliability because they require training of all affected parties. This session will address recent enforcement actions for SOP related violations but no surprise. Most of our enforcement actions are documentation related, i.e., SOP or other procedural documents. We will review examples from

Seminar on Fundamentals of Statistical Process Control: Implementation and Assurance of... - 0 views

  •
Course "Fundamentals of Statistical Process Control: Implementation and Assurance of SPC" has been pre-approved by RAPS as eligible for up to 12 credits towards a participant's RAC recertification upon full completion. Overview: This 2-day seminar provides the information you need to use one of the most powerful tools in quality, statistical process control. It will help people in design, quality, and production understand the concepts and effectively implement them. The examples and issues in the seminar come primarily from the medical device industry, but the material is applicable to any production environment. Production process must be controlled to help ensure they are stable. While there are many control methods, the most powerful and often used is statistical process control, SPC. It uses data from the process itself to detect changes - changes that could result from an unstable process. SPC helps determine if a process continues to operate the way it was set up. If not, SPC produces a signal that calls attention to the problem. One very important application is process capability analysis. With a stable process, SPC data can help determine if the process is capable of meeting the product specifications. These are often expressed as process capability indices. Continuous improvement programs can use the information generated by SPC to monitor process variation and identify its causes. These methods can reduce cost, improve product, and enhance customer satisfaction. Why should you attend: Manufacturing companies, especially medical device manufacturers, must control process. Not only is this a regulatory requirement, but is a good business practice. Without a solid understanding of SPC, you put yourself and your company at a disadvantage. On a personal basis, the material in this seminar will help improve your skills; it aligns with the ASQ Body of Knowledge for the Certified Quality Engineer, Green Belt, and Black Belt. These are areas you should master

Best Wheelchair For Heavy Person - 0 views

  •
People who are very large or heavy may have difficulty using regular chairs. In some cases, they are simply too wide to comfortably fit in an average-sized chair, and in other cases their weight may damage or break the chair entirely. This is not only humiliating to the person who sits in the chair, but could result in injury if the chair collapses. To avoid such an unfortunate occurrence as well as potential litigation, it is important to purchase heavy duty chairs that can accommodate larger family members, employees, and customers. Heavy duty wheelchairs can also be made for specific purposes. An off-road wheelchair, for example, is a heavy duty wheelchair designed for individuals who intend on spending a lot of time on rugged terrain. The most common type of heavy duty wheelchair is a bariatric wheelchair, which is designed to allow larger individuals adequate mobility. For this matter, heavy duty wheelchairs typically have larger seats than conventional wheelchairs. The frames of these wheelchairs can be made from several different reinforced metals, although a titanium wheelchair is often the most popular choice. The wheels themselves are made of thicker rubber than normal, preventing any possible failure due to the greater amount of weight supported. Most makes of heavy duty wheelchairs fold like regular wheelchairs, making storage relatively easy despite the wheelchair's increased size. For the user's convenience, a heavy duty wheelchair can either be manually-operated or motorized, each with its own pros and cons. A manual Heavy Duty Wheelchair gives full control of motion to the user, but the added weight from the reinforcements makes pushing or propelling the wheelchair much harder than normal. A motorized heavy duty wheelchair offers a solution to this dilemma, but is often more expensive and harder to maintain than a manual wheelchair. Some designs offer a combination of both, with a small motor assisting those pushing the wheelchair. The proper c

The Drunk, High, or otherwise Impaired Health Care Practitioner: What can be done to Help - 0 views

  •
Overview: Health care practitioners and other licensed professionals work in today's diverse, fast-changing, multidisciplinary environment. All licensed professions have higher rates of drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and mental health issues. Yet each individual profession has a unique, though similar, state laws which govern how state licensing agencies take action against the professional so as to protect the public. The state's authority and power over licensed professionals often presents challenges to the impaired practitioner that are not easy to navigate. All licensed professionals must adhere to standards of state law which govern their professional practices and include prohibitions for impaired practice - even impairment along that is apart from any direct professional harm. Complaints that are received and investigated by a state agency leave the licensed professional with an uncertain process to handle the state action against them. Coupled with numerous related consequences, such as loss of employment, family issues and divorce, and criminal actions, the licensed professional must handle all these challenges successfully. Learn to identify and understand varying state laws that apply to allow disciplinary action against the licensed professional, both immediately and temporarily, and those which are permanent and final. Review the most common successful elements of the rehabilitation of the licensed professional faced with the deadly consequences of addiction. Compare and contrast regulatory laws and due process requirements for state action. This allows the licensed professional to avoid career-ending sanctions and to defend successfully against legal actions which may result in ruinous practice and career consequences for the professional. This program offers an objective, thorough review of laws which apply to the impaired licensed professional. Why should you attend: Health care practitioners are faced with a higher lifetime risk of drug abuse,

Grant Writing 201: How to Write Compelling Prose, Stay Within Page Count and Not Compro... - 0 views

  •
Overview: In this webinar, Hope will present the lessons she's learned over her career as a grant writer and editor in medical research. By identifying simple solutions to common problems, participants will learn tools to improve their ability create competitive grant applications and increase their academic and research productivity. To write compelling grant applications, this webinar will cover: How your choice of words will help you stay within page limits without compromising the science How to minimize abbreviations to improve readability and respect reviewer time constraints How to use Microsoft Word efficiently to improve page layout and readability How to manage references by enlisting online databases and reference management software How and when to stop developing the content to meet both grantor and institutional deadlines Why should you Attend: Many Grant Writing workshops do not teach writing per se. Though useful for beginning grant writers, most focus on understanding the application process and the various sections of a grant. For participants wanting to learn to actually write a grant, they are often left to figure out the technique for themselves. In addition, funding opportunity applications (FOAs) have changed quite rapidly in the past few years and require more focused writing in fewer pages. Competition has increased as budgets have shrunk, and knowing how to make the most out of both the time and the length of a grant project can prove challenging and extremely stressful. This webinar is for both new and experienced grant writers, either scientists and principal investigators or writers and other support staff. By using common resources (MS Word, EndNote, PubMed), the webinar content is designed to help grant-writing teams increase their efficiency in the writing process and also meet the requirements of the FOAs. Plus, plain language and good writing practices taught in this webinar will ensure straight-forward, content-rich, and well
