Healthy Habits After Addiction : Unlock Your Recovery - 0 views

  •
The incredible consequences that drug misuse has imposed on humans in the last few years make it one of the most pressing issues facing such nations. A person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol often turns to these substances as a crutch while they're going through tough times. Taking the drug regularly becomes habitual since it provides short-term relief without permanently resolving the issue. An important part of becoming sober is learning to substitute better routines for the addict's old, harmful ones. These self-care routines and healthy habits are much better ways to deal with stress. Here we will explain how healthy behavior throughout addiction recovery is simply one of many methods to adapt to life after treatment. Physical Activity Scientific studies have shown that physical activity increases levels of two hormones. dopamine and serotonin, which are linked to better mood. A more positive outlook, restful sleep, and enhanced general health are all possible outcomes of these hormones. In the early stages of your rehabilitation, it is wise to start an exercise regimen that you have never done before. You may find new sober friends and interactions, as well as inspiration to improve your physical health, by connecting with other people who share your interests in physical activity. In the early stages of recovery, having sober friends may be really helpful since it allows you to connect with those who understand what you're going through. Friendships formed in early recovery often continue long after the addict has left the program, according to many people in recovery.

  •
Haleon's Community Pharmacy Pain Consultations Programme, piloted in Australia, has shown promising potential for enhancing pharmacies' roles in pain management. Running from January to May 2023, the programme was designed and tested by the Haleon Centre for Human Sciences, recognising the pressing need to optimise pain consultations between patients and pharmacists. The used a series of simple interventions, rooted in behavioural science, aimed at improving patient experiences in pharmacies. These include window posters and floor graphics to disrupt habitual behaviours and reframe patients' perceptions of the pharmacist's role. Results measured by Professor Colin Strong, head of behavioral science at IPSOS, indicated a significant increase in patient preparedness for discussing pain. Specifically, 92 per cent of patients reported feeling more prepared for these conversations after the interventions, up from 71per cent before.

Cerebral palsy-also known as CP-is a condition caused by injury to the parts of the brain that control our ability to use our muscles and bodies. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. Often the injury happens before birth, sometimes during delivery, or soon after being born. Physical symptoms typically appear in the first few years of life. Cerebral Palsy are frequently slow to reach developmental milestones such as learning to roll over, sit, crawl, smile, or walk. Cerebral Palsy occurs in 1 in every 300 children (Source: Center for Disease Control). CP can be mild, moderate, or severe. Mild CP may mean a child is clumsy. Moderate CP may mean the child walks with a limp. He or she may need a special leg brace or a cane. More severe CP can affect all parts of a child's physical abilities.Child with moderate or severe CP may have to use a wheelchair and other special equipment. Children with CP can also have learning problems, speech, problems with hearing or seeing (called sensory problems), intellectual differences, and behavioral or emotional challenges. Cerebral palsy does not always cause serious disabilities. Usually, the greater the injury to the brain, the more severe the CP. Stay Informed: Aripiprazole Side Effects & Gambling Risks - 0 views

  •
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has reminded healthcare professionals prescribing aripiprazole to alert patients about its possible side effects, following a rise in the number of reports of gambling disorder associated with the drug. Patients taking aripiprazole, which is used for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, are at risk of developing unusual urges or cravings that they cannot resist, including behaviours such as addictive gambling, excessive eating or spending, or an abnormally high sex drive. The regulator has received 69 reports of gambling or gambling disorder suspected to be caused by aripiprazole in the last 14 years via the Yellow Card Scheme, out of which 32 were received between 1 January and 31 August this year. Alison Cave, MHRA Chief Safety Officer, said: "The number of reports for suspected gambling and other impulsive behaviours associated with aripiprazole are small in comparison to the frequency with which it is prescribed, but the consequences for any patient developing these conditions can be significant."

Dopamine vs Serotonin: Explained Brain Emotion Chemical Theory - 0 views

  •
Dopamine and serotonin, often hailed as the "happy chemicals," play crucial roles in shaping our mood, motivation, and overall well-being. While both influence happiness, their functions and nuances differ significantly. Understanding these differences can shed light on our emotions and behavior. The Interplay: A Delicate Dance While Dopamine vs Serotonin have distinct roles, they don't work in isolation. They interact and influence each other, creating a complex system within our brains. For example, dopamine can stimulate serotonin production, further enhancing mood and well-being. Conversely, low serotonin levels can indirectly affect dopamine function, making it harder to experience pleasure and motivation. Maintaining the Harmony Understanding the delicate dance between dopamine and serotonin empowers us to make informed choices towards optimal well-being. Here are some tips: Engage in activities that naturally boost dopamine, like exercise, achieving goals, and spending time with loved ones. Prioritize healthy sleep and a balanced diet rich in serotonin precursors like tryptophan. Practice mindfulness and relaxation techniques to manage stress and support serotonin production. Seek professional help if you suspect imbalances that significantly impact your daily life.

Adderall vs Methylphenidate Online - 0 views

  •
Adderall is a trading name for the combination drug that includes 4 types of amphetamine salts (Amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, dextroamphetamine saccharate, and amphetamine sulfate). In this, the two main ingredients Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine are the central nervous system stimulants that help to pay attention, stay focused, and control uncontrollable behavioral activities. Both Adderall vs Methylphenidate (commonly known as Ritalin) are stimulant medications prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). While they share the same goal of improving focus, attention, and reducing impulsivity, key differences exist in their composition, action, and side effects. Choosing the right one requires understanding these nuances and consulting a healthcare professional. Chemical Composition: Adderall: A brand name for a mixture of amphetamines (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine). These directly stimulate the central nervous system, increasing dopamine and norepinephrine levels. Methylphenidate: Not an amphetamine, but a psychostimulant that works by blocking the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, essentially making them more available in the brain. Side Effects: Adderall: More likely to cause side effects like anxiety, insomnia, decreased appetite, headaches, and heart palpitations. Methylphenidate: More prone to causing side effects like nervousness, stomach upset, tics, and mood swings.

Behavioural Economics in Pharmacy: Transforming Patient Health Outcomes 2024 - 0 views

  •
At this year's pharmacy show and many recent conferences, I have given presentations on behavioural economics. People's health outcomes are greatly determined by behaviours outside the pharmacy or other health settings. Whether they take their medicines, give up smoking or eat healthily, these choices are made at home in the course of their daily lives. How many minutes of the 168 hours in a week, are your customers in contact with you? For many pharmacists, behavioural economics is a 'new' discipline and often flies in the face of what we learned at university years ago. People had symptoms, often traced back to a disease, which led to a treatment, which the patient took (as instructed) and got better. If only! In the context of healthcare, behavioural economics shows that people do not always make decisions based purely on rational cost-benefit analysis. Instead, our choices are often shaped by factors like cognitive biases, social influence, and environmental cues. Once you've left university and started practicing in the real world, this should not come as a surprise. The fact is people do not always act in their own best interest and people do not always do the "right" thing, even if they know what the right thing is. Intention can be a poor predictor of actual health behaviour change-now termed the intention-behaviour gap. In other words, although patients intend to change and maintain their behaviour, the data suggest that many will not follow through with their intention.
