Pharmanovia, the lifecycle management company has signed a licence and supply agreement with Aquestive Therapeutics for its patented diazepam buccal film
formulation across the EU, UK, Switzerland, and Norway, as well as countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)- up to 48 markets in total.
Aquestive Therapeutics has been granted tentative approval by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for its diazepam buccal film for the acute treatment of
intermittent, stereotypic episodes of frequent seizure activity (i.e., seizure clusters, acute repetitive seizures) that are distinct from a patient's usual
seizure pattern in patients with epilepsy 12 years of age and older.
Pharmanovia will be responsible for seeking appropriate regulatory approval across EU and MENA.
Pharmanovia CEO, James Burt commented: "Pharmanovia and Aquestive are aligned in our mission to find new and innovative ways to enhance and revitalise iconic
medicines. We have extensive experience with diazepam through the Valium brand and, together with Aquestive's unique PharmFilm technology, we're intending to bring
a novel alternative diazepam delivery option to caregivers and patients at a time of critical need."
Good news for patients whose epilepsy cannot be controlled by standard anti-seizure drugs! Next month, NHS England will introduce a cutting-edge laser beam
therapy that can prevent seizures in these individuals.
Known as Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT), the advanced treatment targets the part of the brain causing seizures without the need for invasive surgery,
the health service said.
The new fibre optic laser therapy is being offered at King's College Hospital in London and The Walton Centre in Liverpool. Starting from June, it will be gradually
extended to eligible patients across England.
Each year, it is expected to benefit up to 50 epilepsy patients in England who are resistant to standard anti-seizure medications.
"This groundbreaking new treatment will change the lives of those with severe epilepsy improving quality of life and providing much-needed assurance," said Andrew
Stephenson, Minister of State for Health.
CP Child Wheelchair
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disorder of the brain. Normally, the brain tells the rest of the body exactly what to do and when to do it.CP affects the brain, a person might not be able to walk, talk, eat, or move the way most people do.
CP affects a person's muscle tone and ability to coordinate body movements. People with CP have trouble controlling their muscles. CP affects the part of the brain that controls speech, a person with CP might have trouble talking clearly or not be able to speak at all.
Because cerebral palsy affects muscle control, some people have learning disabilities or behavior problems - though many people with CP don't have these issues. Other people with CP also have medical problems like seizures or epilepsy, or hearing impairment.
CP may work with these experts:
a pediatric orthopedist

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a class 2 medicines recall for Sabril 500 mg film-coated tablets & Sabril 500 mg
granules for oral solution.
Sanofi UK has recalled the batches of Sabril tablets and Sabril granules as a precautionary measure due to the detection of traces of tiapride in the batches of the
source material of the manufacturer for vigabatrin.
Sabril (vigabatrin) is indicated for adjunctive treatment of focal seizures with or without secondary generalisation not satisfactorily controlled with other
antiepileptics (under expert supervision) and monotherapy in the treatment of infantile spasms (West's syndrome).
All patients are advised not to discontinue Sabril tablets or Sabril granules without consulting with their prescriber. The risks of suddenly stopping medication
for seizures/epilepsy is higher than the potential risk presented by the presence of tiapride.
Sanofi UK have confirmed to DHSC that no other batches are impacted, and other stock remains available.
The number of people suffering from addiction is at an all time high, with more people seeking treatment across the USA due to the fentanyl crisis, but new
studies have shown that addiction drugs may not only be able to aid those suffering from the deadly disease, but also aid people suffering from long COVID.
While there has long been research underway to find a cure for the likes of alcoholism and drug addiction, it turns out naltrexone, a drug used in the addiction
treatment space, is helping people who have been suffering from headaches, seizures and fatigue as a result of long COVID.
According to Dr. Paul Valbuena at The River Source, an Arizona drug rehab, naltrexone is typically used by rehab centers and prescribed to patients suffering from
addiction to reduce cravings and the feeling of euphoria associated with substance use disorder, giving patients clarity and focus to concentrate on recovery.
Thanks to a recent report, that has also been revealed to be the case for those suffering with long COVID too, with Lauren Nichols, a long COVID sufferer from Chicago
being prescribed the drug by her doctor.
She found that the drug helped quell her seizures and headaches, alowing her to think clearly and get on with her life as normal. It's been a similar story for other
patients too, and has marked a major breakthrough in the bid to help those who are still suffering in the aftermath of the pandemic.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of conditions caused by medical abnormalities in the development of a fetus or the early life of a child. These lead to damage or delayed development in the brain. The disorder is permanent and, though it does not worsen with age, the level of functionality of a person with cerebral palsy varies widely: in some cases, effects may be very minor, while in others, movement is impaired to the extent that a wheelchair is required. Common complications associated with CP vary by the type of CP disorder but can include vision problems, seizures, learning disabilities, and issues speaking, writing, and performing other tasks. Cerebral palsy causes problems with muscle tone, movement, balance and/or coordination. Symptoms and effects range from mild to severe. In some infants, problems are evident soon after birth. In others, diagnosis comes in later infancy or toddlerhood.

Chair For Cerebral Palsy Child
Cerebral palsy is a condition, not a disease.Child with cerebral palsy has a range of chronic movement and posture disorders as the direct result of brain damage within the areas that control movement. It isn't easy raising and caring for a child with cerebral palsy, but that doesn't mean they are helpless. It can be child's best advocate in the months and years to come, ensuring that it gets the care that's needed.
Cerebral means brain-centred while palsy is a lack of muscle control.Cerebral palsy is abbreviated to CP.Cerebral palsy (CP) is a term used to identify a number of neurological impairments typically appearing in infancy or early childhood, according to researchers at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.Child with cerebral palsy have permanent mobility problems caused by brain damage. There is no cure for cerebral palsy, and many children, adolescents and adults can be treated successfully with adaptations, which can improve their capabilities.
Characteristics of cerebral palsy in children are:
Lack of muscle coordination when performing voluntary movements
Stiff muscles and exaggerated reflexes
Abnormal walking with one foot or leg dragging
Excessive drooling or difficulties swallowing, sucking or speaking
Uncontrolled shaking of the body
Difficulty with precise motions, such as writing, tying shoe laces or buttoning a shirt
Inability to walk and need for a walker or wheelchair
Need for extensive, lifelong care
Seizures
Cerebral palsy has many causes.
A brain that has not formed normally.
A combination of low blood flow and/or low oxygen to the brain.
Bleeding in the brain around the time of birth.
Genetic, meaning it is linked to other members of the family.
Meningitis, which causes inflammation of the covering of the brain.

Our range of pediatric wheelchairs are easy to handle and can be used for indoor as well as outdoor purposes.Cerebral palsy is a very common childhood condition, with a consistent prevalence rate estimated at 2/ 1000 children in developed countries.
Cerebral palsy occurs when parts of the brain that control muscles are damaged, causing varying degrees of lifelong disability. There is a wide spectrum disability within CP, ranging from mild physical disabilities to more severe cognitive and physical disabilities both.
Types of Cerebral Palsy:
Spastic CP
Ataxic CP
Mixed CP
Monoplegic CP
Spastic Cerebral Palsy:
This is the most common type of CP. Spastic is a condition of muscular rigidity or spasm that children with CP have. Muscle stiffness causes the body to adopt abnormal positions that the child cannot easily move out from. Movements are awkward and limited or restricted.
Ataxic Cerebral Palsy:
Ataxic means unsteady or shaky movements that are less pronounced than in athetosis. These unsteady movements are observed when a child tries to carry out an activity. For example, when he/she reaches for an object or a toy, he/she may miss the target in the first attempt. Due to poor balance, standing and walking may take longer to learn.
Mixed Cerebral Palsy:
Children with mixed CP show features of more than one type of cerebral palsy. For example, some children have spastic CP with athetosis.
Monoplegic:
Occasionally a child has monoplegic CP, in which only one limb is affected. Monoplegic cases are few.
CP Child Chair
CP is usually caused by factors prior to birth: lack of oxygen passed to the child before birth, via infection spreading from mother to baby or by genetic disorder.
Cerebral Palsy means 'brain paralysis'and it stands for CP. CP is a disability that affects movement and body position.Cerebral Palsy comes from brain damage that happened before the baby was born, at birth, or as a baby. The whole brain is not damaged, only parts of it, mainly parts that control movements. Once damaged, the parts of the brain do not recover, nor do they get worse. However, the movements, body positions, and related problems can be improved or made worse depending on how we treat the child and how damaged his or her brain happens to be. The earlier it start, more improvement can be made.
Cerebral Palsy Chair
Cerebral palsy Chair is a disorder of muscle movement and coordination. It is caused by an injury to a child's brain that occurs before birth or during infancy. It affects the part of the brain that controls body movement. People with cerebral palsy can have other problems such as seizures, decreased ability to learn, and problems hearing, seeing, and thinking. There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but early diagnosis and treatment can greatly improve quality of life.
Causes Of Cerebral Palsy
low oxygen levels (hypoxia)
severe jaundice
brain infections such as encephalitis, meningitis, and herpes simplex infections
brain hemorrhage (bleeding into the brain)
head injuries (due to accidents, a fall or child abuse)
maternal infections such as rubella (German measles)

Cerebral palsy is the focus of a large amount of medical research every year. Though much of this research deals with younger patients, more and more attention is being paid to CP sufferers as they age and seek fuller opportunities and more integration with the rest of society. Living with CP is a daily challenge, but paths to a richer and more fulfilling life are being found. There is not, and may never be a "cure" for CP, but greater understanding by clinicians and the daily success stories of those who overcome their limitations are making.

Causes of Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy is generally caused by developmental issues during pregnancy which lead to abnormal conditions in the brain. During the birth process, lack of oxygen caused by premature delivery or delivery-room errors can cause brain damage that facilitates cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy can also be caused by recognizable brain injuries sustained by the developing child up to an early
Types of CP Associated With Muscle Tone
Cerebral palsy comes in several types, which may be associated with muscle tone or specific body parts. Those associated with muscle tone include: spastic CP, where abnormally high muscle tone causes problems with movement, usually in the legs and hips; ataxia, which is marked by involuntary muscle movements; athetoid, which prevents sufferers from maintaining a fixed muscle position (for example, grasping and holding); and mixed, where symptoms of both spastic and athetoid CP occur.

Types of CP Associated With Body Parts
Certain types of cerebral palsy are associated with specific body parts rather than with the general condition of the muscular system. These types include: quadriplegia, in which all four limbs suffer severe motor dysfunction and a general inability to work together; hemiplegia, in which the limbs on one side of the body are severely affected, with the impact more pronounced in the digits; and diplegia, which causes problems with mus
A University College London team of researchers has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) programme that can identify minute brain anomalies that lead to
epileptic seizures.
The algorithm, used in the Multicentre Epilepsy Lesion Detection project (MELD) and which reports locations of abnormalities in cases of drug-resistant focal
cortical dysplasia (FCD) - a major cause of epilepsy - was developed by a multinational team who used more than 1,000 patient MRI scans from 22 international
epilepsy centres.
Brain regions known as FCDs have evolved improperly and frequently lead to drug-resistant epilepsy. Surgery is usually used to treat it, however, finding the
lesions on an MRI is a constant problem for doctors because MRI scans for FCDs can appear normal.
The scientists employed about 300,000 places throughout the brain to quantify cortical properties from the MRI scans, such as how thick or folded the cortex/brain
surface was.
Britain's competition watchdog has fined pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Flynn £63 million and £6.7 million respectively for allegedly breaking competition
law and illegally profiting from the sale of an anti-epilepsy drug.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found that the two companies colluded to sell phenytoin sodium capsules, previously known as Epanutin, at "unfairly high
prices" for over four over years between 2012 and 2016.
The annual costs of the capsules for the NHS increased from £2 million in 2012 to approximately £50 million the following year.
CMA has accused Pfizer of charging, over four years, prices between 780 per cent and 1,600 per cent higher than what was fixed previously for the medicine used to
prevent life-threatening epileptic seizures.
Pfizer supplied the drug to Flynn, which then sold the capsules on to wholesalers and pharmacies at a price between 2,300 per cent and 2,600 per cent higher than
the prices previously charged by Pfizer.
Authorities in Northern Ireland have seized more than 242,000 unlicensed prescription tablets purchased online and destined for addresses throughout NI.
The medicines seized include Diazepam, used for anti-anxiety treatment, Pregabalin, used for epilepsy and anxiety, steroids and Zopiclone.
Other prescription medicines recovered included Tamoxifen, often used in the treatment of breast cancer and Salbutamol inhalers, frequently used in the treatment
of asthma.
"Co-operation between law enforcement agencies and government departments has led to the seizure of over 242,000 illegal and unlicensed tablets purchased online
and destined for addresses throughout Northern Ireland," justice minister Naomi Long was reported as saying.
The minister, together with health minister Robin Swann and assistant chief constable Mark McEwan PSNI were highlighting Northern Ireland's input to the global,
Interpol co-ordinated Operation Pangea XV, which saw multiple packages of tablets intercepted and seized, with a street value of almost £250,000.
She praised the concerted efforts made by PSNI, Border Force and officials from the Department of Health Medicines Regulatory Group during a specific week of action
in June.
It has been reported that several Austrians have been taken to the hospital after injecting fake Ozempic, as confirmed by health regulator.
Austria's Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) confirmed that the patients have suffered hypoglycaemia and seizures.
It is believed that the injections contained insulin instead of the weight loss drug, semaglutide.
The health regulator has urged doctors and patients to verify their medication stocks.
The new deal struck by the NHS will enable provision of a life-saving treatment for babies and young children who suffer with a rare and fatal genetic disease, metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD).
The revolutionary gene therapy treatment, known by its brand name Libmeldy, is used to treat MLD, which causes severe damage to the child's nervous system and organs,
leading to a life expectancy of just five to eight years.
Having a reported list price of more than £2.8 million, it is the most expensive drug in the world, but can now be offered to young patients on the NHS in England after the health service negotiated a significant confidential discount.
the drug works by removing the patient's stem cells and replacing the faulty gene that causes MLD before then re-injecting the treated cells into the patient.
The most common form of MLD usually develops in babies younger than 30 months and can cause loss of sight, speech and hearing, as well as difficulty moving, brain impairment, seizures, and eventually death.
The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has cautioned men on valproate to talk to their healthcare professional about their treatment,
if they want to start a family in the next year.
The warning came after a new study, commissioned by the European Medicines Agency, suggested that children fathered by men who took the anti-seizure medicine in
the three months prior to conception may be at higher risk of developing neurodevelopmental disorders.
Around five in 100 children born to fathers treated with valproate around conception were diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder, compared to three in
100 children whose fathers were taking other antiseizure medicines (lamotrigine or levetiracetam).
However, the risk is believed to be much smaller than the risk associated with valproate in pregnancy.
Thirteen people were arrested following raids at four drug manufacturing units in the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, resulting in the seizure of
mephedrone valued at Rs 230 crore (approximately 22.30 million GBP), according to a news agency report.
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Narcotics Control Bureau conducted the raids jointly on Friday, prompted by a tip-off received by the ATS indicating
that Ahmedabad resident Manoharlal Enani and Kuldeepsinh Rajpurohit from Rajasthan had set up mephedrone manufacturing units, PTI reported on Saturday, quoting
an official.
As stated in an ATS release obtained by the news agency, the raids were conducted at the units in Sirohi and Jodhpur in Rajasthan and Piplaj village in Gandhinagar
and Bhaktinagar industrial area of Amreli district in Gujarat.
"The ATS recovered 22.028 kilograms of mephedrone (in solid form) and 124 kilograms of liquid mephedrone, collectively valued at Rs 230 crore(approximately
22.30 million GBP).
"Rajpurohit was nabbed during the raid in Gandhinagar and Enani was held from Sirohi," it said.
