The Future Economy Group | Bringing Victoria's economy into the 21st century - 0 views

  •
"The Future Economy Group, a new coalition of businesses and environmental leaders, has joined forces to research and advocate the importance of innovation and natural capital to Victoria's economy. We sponsored detailed research that shows that nature and economy are inextricably linked and quantifies the impact on the Victorian economy and jobs if our environment continues to decline. It shows that we can grow the economy and jobs by modernising Victoria's economy into one that is built on innovation and values nature. Based on this research, the Group then developed the Future Economy Plan, a roadmap to modernise Victoria's economy. It provides a series of powerful ideas for change, and urges the government of Victoria to take action now to convert the state economy from 'business-as-usual' to one that can meet the challenges of the 21st-century."

Solar PV industry licks its wounds as last tariff falls : Renew Economy - 0 views

  •
"The timing was appropriately perverse. On the day that most listed Australian solar companies had finalised the release of a massive splash of red ink on their accounts, the result of a series of boom-bust cycles inspired by various state governments, Victoria decided to trigger another mini boom-bust cycle by becoming the latest, and presumably the last, to slash its solar feed in tariffs."

Monsanto Is Going Organic in a Quest for the Perfect Veggie - Wired Science - 1 views

  •
Agriculture giant Monsanto may be best known for genetic modification-like creating corn that resists the effects of Monsanto's weed killer Roundup. But when it comes to fruits and vegetables you buy in the store, genetic modification is off the menu. Monsanto thinks no one will buy Frankenfoods, so the company is tweaking its efforts-continuing to map the genetic basis of a plant's desirable traits but using that data to breed new custom-designed strains the way agronomists have for millennia. Here's how it works-and how the results differ from GMO crops. Thanks to this cross between high and low tech, a new era of super-produce may be upon us. -Victoria Tang

Climate change is crap! Tony Abbot said to the Pyrenees Advocate. - ABC Victoria - Aust... - 0 views

  •
"December 02, 2009 , 9:24 AM by Prue Bentley In the last 24 hours, Tony Abbott has come under fire for his comments on the veracity of climate change. The media has seized on his claim to a small local Victorian paper that "climate change is crap". In the context of his leadership this is curious as Mr Abbott seems to have spun 180 degrees in his estimation of human influenced climate change in as little as a few hours / votes. The paper in question happened to be the Pyrenees Advocate and the Editor of the paper, Craig Wilson, was there when those words were uttered."
