There is growing optimism within Raiders ranks that Milford is reconsidering his move to Brisbane, with Canberra reportedly prepared to offer $1million a season.
Raiders chief executive Don Furner denied the club was building a war-chest of third-party sponsors to fight for Milford, but he said club was "hopeful" Milford would stay.
"We've just got to make sure we win, keep him happy and we'll see how we go," Furner said.
"The salary cap rules are a minefield in themselves so there's a lot that has got to be worked through there. We've just got to win some games, if he's comfortable, hopefully he'll change his mind.
My roommates must have thought I was mad. Never one to sit down with their fellow house-dweller to watch a game of rugby league, they had no idea why I was screaming when watching Melbourne take on St George-Illawarra last Monday night

Canberra Raiders remain hopeful of retaining star Anthony Milford, but coach Ricky Stuart says the young fullback is now being physically targeted by every NRL club too.
The Raiders are working behind the scenes recruiting third-party sponsors to try and entice Milford to remain in Canberra beyond this season, which would require him to back-flip on a two-year deal with the Brisbane Broncos.
The Gold Coast Suns also played well in round 1, however, with an impressive win against Richmond to set their season up nicely. However, while the Suns are even talking up their finals credentials this year, they are yet to win at Patersons Stadium and yet to beat Fremantle. Even though the Dockers will have to be careful of the Suns energetic young team, it will be a big surprise if the Gold Coast come out on top.
AFL great Leigh Matthews used that famous Predator movie quote to inspire Brisbane to victory over Essendon in 2001, and Gold Coast have adopted the same mantra as they attempt to take down Fremantle in Perth on Saturday night. The Dockers have become nearly unbeatable at Patersons Stadium over the past 20 months, with the premiership favourites losing just one game at home during that period.

I understand there's a lot of pressure on high draft picks to perform first-up, but it's a tough brutal game. It's a huge step up from the NEAFL level to the AFL.
"All we want him to do is go out there, have some fun, play the games like he used to play at under-18 level.
"If he does that, I'm sure his natural talent and work rate will take care of the rest."
Being the No.1 pick no doubt attracts plenty of extra attention and scrutiny, but that doesn't have Boyd shaking in his boots.
"I set a pretty high expectations for myself anyway - that's what drives me and motivates me," he said.
Coach Leon Cameron is also planning to use him as a back-up ruckman to Jon Giles, who held the fort in last weekend's loss to the Western Bulldogs in the absence of injured star Shane Mumford.I was pretty nervous early on the week when they let me know I was in the squad of guys who were up for selection - probably the most nervous I've been," Boyd said on Thursday.

Lions are hit by injuries and could lose up to five players from team that narrowlylost to Sharks last week. The Stormers have lost their past five games and will again be without Schalk Burger and have promoted for Kings playmaker Demetri Catrakilis to five-eighth with Peter Grant moving to fullback. Controversial referee Stuart Berry has again been appointed to a Lions match .it is just about returning to a winning mentality after five successive defeats this season, which is where Gericke could play a vital role. In 2007 he coached the Springboks through World Cup by keeping players' minds focused on small targets rather than the big picture.

"Lineouts and turnovers are the best source of scoring and we haven't given ourselves the best chances from those platforms. So the plan is to simplify things, especially when opponents try to put us under pressure." Coetzee said that newly appointed director of rugby Gert Smal has been passing on some of his expertise in those areas from his time as Springbok and Ireland forwards coach. Smal has chatted at length to Stormers forward coach Matt Proudfoot and assisted on some technical input. "Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can help," Coetzee said in reference to Smal's assistance.
Former Springbok psychologist Henning Gericke was at the High Performance Centre yesterday, where he will use his considerable experience to help prepare the team to face the Lions at Newlands this weekend. The Stormers have lost six of seven matches this season and have the slimmest of chances of making the play-offs.In the short term, it is just about returning to a winning mentality after five successive defeats this season
