I designed a template to introduce teachers to the usefulness of Google Docs as a tool for student driven research The purpose of the template is for use as a starting point to help teachers plan and implement technology driven learning experiences that are fueled by Essential Questions and aligned to Common Core Standards.

Recently, we spent time at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California, talking to some of the folks behind Google Docs & Spreadsheets, part of Google's web-based office suite. We asked the product experts we met for their favourite features that often don't get the limelight or that people simply don't know about. Here are five that we thought were worth sharing:

Searching for information and making sense of it is a process that involves critical thinking. Google has many tools to help students sift through the overwhelming abundance of web content , but those tools are often not utilized by students and teachers. Google recently announced the launch of Search Education .

Last year all of the students in our school district received Google Docs accounts and I was kept quite busy all year getting students up and running and then finding innovative ways to use the tools for learning. Upon reflection,if I got the opportunity to do it all over again there are three things I would make sure to do at the start of the year to kick off Google Docs.

Great resource for e Portfolios with Google Apps sites/docs

Those who depend on Google Docs know how frustrating it is when you want to make a simple change from an iPhone, but can't because Google Docs is read-only on mobile devices. Until now, that is. Google has just introduced a new mobile editor that makes it possible to make changes to your Google Docs from any iOS 3.x or later device, as well as from Android devices running Froyo (2.2).
