Manic Street Preachers are an alternative rock band from Blackwood, Wales, formed in 1986. Often referred to as "the Manics", they are James Dean Bradfield (vocals, guitars), Nicky Wire (bass, occasional vocals) and Sean Moore (drums, backing vocals, occasional trumpet). The band were originally a quartet: lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards mysteriously vanished on 1 February 1995. He was declared presumed deceased in November 2008. The Manics released their debut album Generation Terrorists in 1992. Their combination of androgynous glam punk imagery, outspoken invective and songs about "culture, alienation, boredom and despair" soon gained them a loyal following and cult status. The band's later albums retained a politicized and intellectual lyrical style, while adopting a broader alternative rock sound.

This article discusses The Parking Lot Experiment from 1996. It was an experiment conducted by the Flaming Lips, who also wrote the album Transmissions from the Satellite Heart. They are indie musicians who perform alternative music and independent music. These experiments established the Flaming Lips as one of the most creative indie bands of the 90s. The winner of uPlaya's Music Video Contest and this week's featured band on uPlaya- MTHDS- knows how to shred more than just a guitar. The six-member alternative rock/ hip-hop group met in Vail, Colorado in 2007 landing half-pipes and gap jumps on the snowy slopes of the Rockies.

`Mammút is an Icelandic band and the featured artist of the week. While many listeners outside of Iceland may not understand a single lyric, make no mistake, they do speak the universal language of awesome rock music. They have a distinct Icelandic sound, but are similar to the Iceland band, The Sugarcubes and Bjork with an alternative rock kick.
