Excellent music player that I enjoy using.

songbird is an open source audio player and a way that many are finding and sharing mp3's - it has done a nice job of being a very respectable alternative to itunes.

Changing pictures and avatars - this author offers insight into this and why students may be changing their picture so much.

I really enjoyed intrepid teacher's thoughts about changing your avatar and self expression. I think this is very insightful into what is in the minds of our students and children. I don't think I change my picture much as it reminds me that I have 40 pounds to lose.

An incredible resource from the Smithsonian for educators

An online presence for the smithsonian.

Government organizations like the smithsonian are reaching out to educators and others with an online presence. This cool site has lesson plans and lots of great information for arts, science and technology, history and culture, and language arts.

This freeware lets you figure out what a song is - just download, install and play the song into your computer.

OK, so you want to figure out what that song is? Download Tunatic and play the song and it will recognize it. This is so cool!!! Search engines aren't just for text any more. This is very useful.

Great digital storytelling wiki with process and resource information by Jon Orech

OK, this game is very interesting if just as a novelty. A PMOG is a passively multiplayer online game. Does anyone else play this?

Cool visual search engine

Great place to teach digital citizenship for students in elementary ages. Schools can sign up for accounts. Excellent place to evaluate as part of how the www is changing the world and how information is moving between children.

I highly recommend that elementary and middle schools at least sign up for a school code for woogi world - this is a great tool suggested by Hoover City schools for teaching digital citizenship. My daughter (my intrepid tester of all kid virtual worlds) loves it and says she thinks it is great for kids.

Blog action day is today, October 15th. I let this one creep up on me.!! This is how bloggers unite and talk about important issues related to the world. Poverty is the action issue for this year

Having a blog action day is just one way to get people to stand up and take notice of an issue.

Digital sotrytelling tools from Alan Levine

You can look at how Google changed the world, however, you may also want to consider one other organization that has also changed things -- mozilla firefox -- consider this - what if you slightly change your topic to "How Google and Open Source Software changed the world" -- just thinking out loud here but you might want to consider it.

Matthew Bib tipped me off to this one -- this add on lets you open an IE tab in firefox. Not sure of the security of it and I want to check it out. My bank only lets me use IE. If it is safe as it look s(15 million downloads) - this is a GREAT tool.

You can add subtitles to videos here . I think the point is that once something is posted, it can be "mashed up" in endless ways!

Can I Use Google Docs at Home? Absolutely. One of the children in my class had waited to the end of the session to ask me if they could access Google Docs at home. This afternoon we introduced all of our Year 5 children (60) to Google Apps and we had lots of fun exploring the tool with our new classes.

Websites are no longer just information in themselves but are being mashed up and mixed up using tools like Diigo.
