Circa has created a new news app that will screw up journalism. As a story surfaces, the app updates the story from multiple sources found on the internet. Instead of reading one article, one will just read updates as they come about.

Even though it does say that it's a "copyrighted material," almost all contents of the "Pop Song Piracy: Disobedient Music Distribution since 1929" are accessible through Amazon's "look inside" (which is made possible by a publisher/owner). What does this sharing depend on? Why do some publishers allow people to read the book without buying it? (When you read a book in a library, at least one several copies are purchased). I wonder if it's because this book is published by The University of Chicago as opposed to some Penguin Publishing...

When catching up on some SP episodes this weekend I cam across this: an episode where kyle gets kidnapped by apple, because he did not read the iTunes contract before clicking agree. this brought me back to our discussion about Facebook and their terms and agreement.

We read some articles about how the recording company gets most of the money and makes all of the decisions. I've been keeping up with this band and they've decided to cut the middle man out and release an album themselves. They claim that this is the new age of music releases.

There are variety of mascots and logos associated with schools. Unfortunately there are a lot more school than mascots and logos. Here is an article by Dennis Read on the usage of logos and the laws (if there are any) to protect them. 

I haven't read Charlie's blog post yet, but this is a great visual remix of the Daft Punk classic.

Barry Kernfeld's "Pop Song Piracy" would be an interesting book to read. Even though it costs $29 on Amazon.com, the publisher allows the readers to look inside the book, and pretty much access all of its contents...

This is an example of Jenkins convergence culture in the fact that it allows someone who may not have let the world know about his life, reveal his story that has now touched many people. As Jenkins says, "every important story gets told." Also, this is another way that Ben Breedlove was able to have social connections. He made more than this one video in which he gave relationship advice to his peers but this video was his last before his heart stopped. This was one video I thought of as I read that article.

I think this is a pretty cool writing/reading assignment for young kids!  It also gives really easy instructions for how to make a good writing remix.

This has to be one of the coolest things I have had the pleasure to read about. Talk about working with technology to develop art! Not only is the thought processes of creating this awesome but the idea behind it kind of blows my mind.

is there a remix on this in your future?

I just read Abigail's post on her Remix Project, just to make sure you're asking me. So, I guess you ARE asking me...:) I might use some of this or a part of some other video LIKE this. However, after our conversation in class after "Rip," I'm thinking of altering the subject of my project slightly, i.e. concentrate more on psychedelic drugs and their potential. A lot of details would stay the same: it would still involve the government, misinformation, and the laws that take our rights, harm humanity, and prevent us from reaping the benefits of science.

The basics to working with iMovie--learned a couple short cuts and tricks. 

Should we be recording concerts? Bono thinks not. Yet, this is being recorded high up somewhere else. Oh the irony. What is our's to record and what isn't? And is recording something or stealing that content depleting from our own appreciation of it "in the moment?"

Hey, I don't know if you read the other comments there but apparently "he asked people to text to specific number to support his cause during the same concert lol" (by treocin). You can't record and share a piece of Bono with your friends and family but you can share a piece of your wealth with Bono (all through your phone too!). In Bono's defense, his cause is noble: third world debt relief!!!

i bought this book a couple years ago but haven't read it yet... i could get it over fall break and bring it in
