Gotye: Somebodies - A YouTube Orchestra - 0 views

  •
This is Gotye's remix of all the different groups that made covers of his song "Somebody That I Used To Know." I really like how he puts the different videos up so that we can see all the different sounds that are coming together. Also, clearly he does not care as much about copyright issues as some people because he is supporting people's use of his song.

Why is the Rum Gone? - Remix - YouTube - 1 views

This is a pretty cool remix of different scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean made into a song.  I like how it show the image that goes with the lyric too!  And does multiple boxes!!!

NBC chimes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  •
"The chimes were the first ever audio trademark to be accepted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office." How far can the NBC trademark for its chimes be taken? 3 notes. Easy to inadvertently put in a song. How does trademark in this case differ from copyright?

All Things Bright and Beautiful (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

"The third single to be released was "Deer in the Headlights",[3] released on May 24, 2011 (but as an iTunes Exclusive, was made available for download the previous day). The single was announced in a different way than what is considered traditional. Starting May 16, 2011, every day of that week part of the song would be added to the sneak peek.[14] It was originally just called "New Song", and fans had to guess the new song. The first part of the song to be released were the drums, followed by the addition of bass, guitar, synthesizer, and vocals over the next four days. On the final day, the title for the song was announced." This came to mind when I read the "studio as a compositional tool." Owl City made the layers of his new song very transparent to his listeners as a way of introducing his latest song. Unfortunately links were only active for 24 hours with each instrument. So, I have nothing for you to listen to...

13 Indispensable Special Effects Breakthroughs By Industrial Light & Magic - 0 views

  • Developed Morf, graphics software for "digital metamorphosis of high resolution images" — like the funky series of transformations seen in this clip from 1988's Willow, the first time morphing effects this detailed had ever been seen. ILM boasts that it'd "be almost two years before any ILM competitor could duplicate the technique."

When disney bought lucas films, it turns out they bought all these different lighting and technology equipment/software. It's crazy how they can get away with owning all this technology/software and having their competitors be years away from catching up.

Peace Piece, Kinetic Typography (Giedre) - YouTube - 0 views

  •
It'a a video I made a while ago about a different perspective on war and so called "terrorism." Both sides should share the guilt and put themselves in others' shoes. I took a voice of a retired veteran and made a kinetic typography mix in After Effects.

The Avalanches - 'Frontier Psychiatrist' - YouTube - 0 views

This dj group formed in the late 90s and makes most of its songs from samples from a bunch of old vinyls.  Their style is really different but has been pretty successful!

ELDERS REACT TO DUBSTEP (SKRILLEX) - YouTube - 0 views

  •
I know this isn't a remix, but DUBSTEP essentially is a mix of instruments and different music forms. Here is a funny clip of an older generations take on Dubstep music. One man even calls it "metellaickeeerb" metallica mixed with... IDK?

The Black Box Fallacy - mediation - 1 views

  • Henry Jenkins notes in his book Convergence Culture;"I am seeing more and more black boxes.  there are my VCR, my digital cable box, my DVD player, my digital recorder, my sound system, and my two games systems, not to mention a hug mound of videotapes, DVDs and CDs, game cartridges and controllers, sitting atop, laying alongside, toppling over the edge of my television system"
  •
This is just a bit of a different explanation of the black box fallacy.

Katy Perry Firework - A Capella Cover - Mike Tompkins - Beatbox - YouTube - 0 views

  •
Not much of a fan of this, but I found it pretty cool how Mike Tompkins has recorded himself as the singer, the snare, the violin, and other various instruments and mashed them all together to remix Katy Perry's, "Firework." It reminds me of early hip-hop artist taking samples from different songs to create their own original track. Mike manages to create a  multi person band with only himself.

Pinterest is an online forum where people can post articles, videos, recipes, photos, etc., that express their own interests. It is a fascinating way in which "every consumer gets courted across multiple media platforms" since each person's pinterest "boards" depict multiple ways of gathering information and appeals to popular cultural phenomenons. It is also very similar to diigo in many ways that I think is interesting- different websites that are used to organize the mass amount of information that people encounter while searching the web.

For me, pinterest is the place where I, as the syllabus says, "keep found things found"

MOVE on Vimeo - 0 views

a visual collage of the world! I absolutely loooove this short film! I have watched it over 20 times. Only a minute long but it mashes the different sights of the world so smoothly and effortlessly together as one. The explanation of the video says that it was the director's idea to study linear concepts based on movement, learning and food through his 3 short films.

Honey Badger | Know Your Meme - 1 views

  •
Information and a link to the viral video "The Crazy Nasty-Ass Honey Badger"--originally nature footage aired by National Geographic, later "remixed" by adding a different voice over. The video spawned several ad campaigns, a line of products, and the nickname for now inactive LSU Tyrann Mathieu.

New 2012 Pop Mash-Up - 0 views

This is hands down the best mash-up I've heard in a while. And it brings in key elements for people doing mash-ups of taking small sections of songs and looping them to create different "instruments" Food for Thought.
