This project addresses the Friday Institute's goals of developing innovative teacher professional development practices and resources and improving 21st century teaching and learning. FIZZ will be an ongoing service offered and managed by the Friday Institute.
We're currently building out a team of advisors to inform the development of the YouPD community. While we benefit from the institutional backing and knowledge of New Visions for Public Schools, our goal is to foster an open, cross-organizational ecosystem that strengthens existing teacher-led professional communities and spurs innovation.
The purpose of 21things4teachers is to provide "Just in Time" training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should possess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discover what students need in order to meet the NETS for Students, as well as online course requirement.
The Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU) is an online community of open study groups for short university-level courses. Think of it as online book clubs for open educational resources. The P2PU helps you navigate the wealth of open education materials that are out there, creates small groups of motivated learners, and supports the design and facilitation of courses. Students and tutors get recognition for their work, and we are building pathways to formal credit as well.
SEA-SAWS is a new interactive activity developed by the Gallery's education department. Young artists choose photographs of natural and man-made objects, then assemble the pieces to create a seascape or an abstract composition. A "build" option allows them to construct animated characters and set them in motion. This Art Zone program is fun for children of all ages. (Requires Shockwave)
