Google's location-aware pocket tour guide app Field Trip comes to iOS - The Next Web - 0 views

  •
This article is about a location-aware Field Trip tour guide app for iOS. You can now download it from the apple app store. Previously, the app was only available for Android, arriving back in September 2012. Field Trip runs in the background on your phone, triangulating position via cell phone towers, and only notifies you when "get close to something interesting." This can include anything local businesses, historical facts, landmarks, art, or culture. You select the local feeds you like and the information pops up on your phone automatically as you move about. You can discover thousands of interesting places/experiences that fall under the following categories: Architecture, Historic Places & Events, Lifestyle, Offers & Deals, Food Drinks & Fun, Movie Locations, Outdoor Art and Obscure Places of Interest around you. Field Trip can detect when you're driving and automatically "talk" about interesting places and experience around you. I think that this is a cool app and should be used while you go on trips so that you can see all the places around you and choose where you want to go.

The "Nuclear" Option for Total Facebook App Privacy - 0 views

  •
Facebook is now offering the option to disallow all applications from sharing and/or accessing your information. Currently, there is a lot of talk about privacy on the internet and how a lot of people don't like having advertisements and notifications shoved into their face every time they use social networking sites or play games.  Nowadays a lot of games have 'share' options built into them that allows you to share useless achievements such as how many cows you bought or how much wheat you need to feed them. This annoys many people who use social networking sites to just talk with friends and get up-to-date information from pages they liked.  The 'nuclear' option will allow people who do not want to be bothered by friends' status updates on games and also people who don't want applications to share what they are doing to others without them knowing or without their consent. This may cause many game developers to change tactics on how they want to attract users from sites such as Facebook because they don't want to risk getting blocked by everyone.

Yahoo Just Made The Most Beautiful Weather App - 0 views

  •
Yahoo had just made a new app for weather which is catching to the eyes.  Everyone checks on their phone once in a while to see the weather and yahoo has one if not the prettiest app for weather.  With the help of photographers and the Flickr community, Yahoo! Weather screams simplicity. Just look at it.By pulling in your exact coordinates, the time of day and general weather conditions, Yahoo! Weather selects and displays an appropriate image taken in your town to match the forecast. So at night, you'll see night time shots and so on. And by scrolling up, you have access to an hourly forecast, five day forecast, the ever important "feels like," wind and pressure, chance of precipitation and it'll even tell you when the sun is rising and setting. There's also a map mode that offers a wider area of coverage in case you're traveling. Also, by turning your iPhone horizontal, the app goes into full display mode with just images from your city of choice.

Tablet ownership doubles in Canada | Toronto Star - 0 views

  •
Anglophone= English speaking person Francophone= French speaking person Technology has become a large part of our everyday lives. This article talks about how Canadians are purchasing more and more electronics. (Cell phones, iPads, tablets) The article also talks about how Canadians are also signing up for Netflix, a service that allows users to watch movies in the comfort of their own home. The Media Technology Monitor states that 28 % of English speaking Canadians owned a tablet at the time of the survey which was 7 times the amount in 2010. I think this this is a result of society and the services that businesses now offer that they hadn't previously. EX: Now, we can watch movies on our tablets, but let's say 10 years ago, we would have to go to a movie theater. I believe that portable devices have positively affected our lives. These devices make everything we do more convenient, for example, cell phones allow me to contact my friends anywhere in the world and they also provide me with help in an emergency. I strongly believe that portable devices have positive effects in our lives, and judging from the increasing amount of technology users, many others think so as well.

Tim Cook apologizes for Maps mess -- Engadget - 0 views

  •
Something very odd has occurred in the world of the Apple products. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook has issued an APOLOGY towards the people unhappy about the "Maps" app in the new IOS 6. He posted an open letter to IOS 6 users in the morning of September 28 apologizing for the lack of polish on the final product and desperately offers alternative map apps from other competitors too. Apple has made a big mistake kicking out Google Maps from their software and adding their own incomplete Maps app. Deleting such a top-of-the-line maping software means that they have something even better in store for the Apple fan boys. Sadly this isn't true. The Maps in IOS 6 is truly horrible. It's time for Apple to smarten up.

CEO Tim Cook apologizes for "falling short" on Apple Maps - Apple News, Tips and Reviews - 0 views

  •
Recently, problems have been occurring with the Apple company. That problems is about the upgrade to iOS6 in Apple's products and that they replaces the Google Maps app with their own new, Apple Maps app. Surprisingly, these maps were actually a downgrade from the Google maps since it has some bugs. One of those bugs is about how the map won't exactly pinpoint the location you want to find. The CEO Tim Cook apologizes for this downgrade but offers people to use other apps that can help replace this while it gets fixed and gets better. It's a good thing he said this since this map app isn't something their customers would expect from the Apple Company. This relates to portable computing since this maps app can be used also as a GPS although the map has bugs with pinpointing locations. Apple needs to step up their game to satisfy their customers

Chrome Offers Tabs to Go With New Tab-Syncing Features | Webmonkey | Wired.com - 0 views

  •
This new tab syncing feature that google provides, allows the user coordinate the tabs between their mobile device and home laptop/desktop. This relates to Portable Computing because you are able to access tabs on your home computer through a mobile device while outside. This could also connect to the Privacy and Security tag because if someone has access your devices they are able to change your info or documents. This is extremely helpful during your day to day lifestyle since a large portion of the population uses mobile devices. The positive aspect would be that you're able to  continue work. The negative aspect could be that an outside source could access your info. With an Android phone with the new Chrome beta installed, you have the power of  being able to access any open tab any on your desktop from any location.

PS Vita gets (another) firmware update, free-to-play Montezuma Blitz available now -- E... - 0 views

  •
This article is all about the new firmware version update for PS Vita. It's been a week since the last one, but Sony's now begun rolling out firmware version 1.67. In this update there's no detail about the changes but you can pick up the PS Vita's latest free game, Montezuma Blitz, a Bejewelled-style puzzle game. However, it's not the first game to be offered up free on the Vita and some pesky in-game purchases taint that freebie status a little.

YouTube Adds A "Play In 3D" Option Across Its Site | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
This article is about how youtube will be offering a 3D option for their videos. Viewers can choose whether or not they want to watch the videos in 3D. I think that its really cool what youtube is doing, and I think many people will watch their videos in 3D. However the picture quality and the 3D aspect of the video may not be very good and people will not use the 3D option. I personally am not a fan of 3D, but I think the rest of society like it and will be really excited to have 3D youtube videos.

It's surprising that apple would actually quit selling the white MacBook when it's pretty popular, but now they decided to refresh and start with the MacBook Air. Now Apple is offering the 11 and 13 inch Macbook Air. This MacBook can be brought everywhere since it's really thin, it makes life easier for students.

New iPad vs. iPad 2: Which is the Better Deal? | PCWorld - 0 views

  •
Whether you are thinking of getting the new Ipad or the Ipad 2, yo should do some little bit of research in the internet. In this article, there are lots of advantage and disaventage about the ipad2 and the New Ipad. The foremost argument for the new iPad is its gorgeous, high-resolution display. It's sharper and brighter, and offers more compelling color and detail than the display on the iPad 2. If you appreciate the difference in image quality between standard-definition and high-definition content, you'll want a new iPad.

Lab Tested: Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition | PCWorld - 0 views

  •
Intel parked its test Core i7-3960X CPU on a DX79SI "Siler" motherboard. The Siler is well equipped, to say the least. Eight DIMM slots offer a potential 64GB of RAM, with four DIMMs arranged on each side of the processor. This could pose a problem for some larger CPU fans. For my tests Intel provided an Asetek liquid cooling kit, but plenty of alternative cooling systems and motherboards supporting Socket 2011 will undoubtedly be available at or near launch.

Presently, I have willed out almost half of our assets to several charity homes and to some of the less privilege in different countries. Despite the agreement between my late husband and I to give aid to the deprived, we also agreed to render support to an individual we have not meet before in life due to the fact when

Pivothead video glasses offer impressive quality, we go hands-on (sample video) -- Enga... - 0 views

  •
This video and article is about a pair of sunglasses that can help you shoot videos and capture pictures on-the-go, instantly. This breakthrough has its own up side and down side. For the up side, you get to shoot videos whenever you want, wherever you want. Plus, its very convenient. It adds little to no bulk at all. From the outside, it looks like your typical sunglasses. And did I forget to mention it has a camera that reportedly surpasses that of the iPhone 4S? For the downside, think about privacy. Before, you can tell if someone was video taping you or not. You could tell because they are holding a rectangular device. But right now how are going to tell? Many people wear sunglasses and from a distance, you would not be able to tell that those pair of sunglasses are the ones that are capable of shooting videos. Well I guess downside of this just depends on how the user uses it.

Next-Gen YotaPhone Follow-Up Unveiled, With Full-Touch E-Ink Rear Screen | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
Yota Devices is a smart phone phone company, based in Russia that is making waves in the cell phone community with their innovations in smart phone hardware. The yotaphone was released last year in asia and europe and quickly made a name for itself by offering not only staple specs we have come to expect, but also innovation for the screen. Its front screen operates as anyone would guess, so the real area the phone stands out in is shown when flipped over. The back screen is a low-power e-ink display that in the phones first incarnation was mainly used for display and lacked touchscreen capabilities. Now, however, in the yotaphones upcoming successor: the screen has made the jump to a full touch panel, allowing it be used to answer calls, receive and dismiss notifications and be used to play games that don't require the flashy capabilities of the front screen. This kind of innovation in cellphone technology is of paramount importance and the biggest step forward since the original iphone. The potential is amazing, allowing for new software to utilize the second screen, and making cellphones even more accessible and useful to the smartphone community.

Sony's Waterproof Wearable To Be Available Worldwide In March | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
The future is now, and that future is wearable tech. Yet another big player has announced its release date of its 'smart watch', and this time its time for the gaming crowd to be excited. Sony has just announced the release time of their new wearable tech, the SmartBand SWR10, and (in a rare instance), both athletes and smartphone geeks have something to look forward to. The SmartBand is a sleek wrist bracelet that offers features for athletes, Xperia users, and pretty much everyone else with its three major features. The band acts as notifier for phone activity, as well as having non-tech applications, namely various kinds of health monitoring, and something called Lifelog (basically just a facebook feed of your phone... which you can already do with facebook) .While it is good to see a new player enter the smartwatch arena, nothing in this release is new, I would argue the main selling point may be its selling point; price that is. All of the bands features have been done before or can be accomplished by separate 3rd party applications, and you gain nothing by collapsing them to one item. Save its rumoured cheap price of $150, the SmartBand is nothing special, nothing new.
