The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in the INX Media case. On Thursday, the top court had reserved its order on the 74-year-old leader's bail plea in the case. Chidambaram is being probed on allegations of money laundering by the Enforcement Directorate.

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram suffered a series of setbacks, on Monday. Firstly, the Supreme Court refused to take up a plea, filed by him seeking protection from arrest in a probe related to INX Media case. The bench termed his plea "infructuous" (meaning unnecessary) as he has already been arrested by CBI. Secondly, his petition challenging his CBI custody wasn't listed for the hearing, either.

Ahead of his Supreme Court hearing in the INX Media case, Congress leader P Chidambaram was visited by party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the Tihar Jail on Wednesday morning. Today, the court will hear Chidambaram's bail plea in the case filed by the Enforcement Directorate.

The Supreme Court will hear the plea of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection to the INX Media caseon Monday, August 26. On Thursday, Chidambaram was sent to CBI custody till August 26 by a special court. The agency argued his custody is important for interrogation and alleged Chidambaram hasn't been cooperative.
