Interesting videos to watch and activities with our students

Family leisure activities and how it contributes to reinforce family ties are the main topics of this document. It gives you a clearer picture of your student´s environment. It describes how divorce, single parenthood, poverty can affect families. It is useful to know yor student background because it is not a matter to teach them English it is, also, how the students can overcome difficulties. You can use the reading to avoid sensitive points in your classes, and to know which activities children prefer to do with their parents. I always tell my students, today you are going to tell your parents what did you learn in English, many, not all, receive possitive words about it and it shows how you can use English to create an activity children can share with their parents. This site shows something that we are losing: Values. We need to be aware that one of our duties is to reinforce family unit. We have to work not only with children but with their parents, too. You can use the information to create a comfortable environment between children and their parent. I take every opportunity to share my opinion with parents. Parents who don´t speak English I always afraid about it. With this site you can tell them that the responsibility of teaching English is yours ( their English teacher), but the responsibility to motivate their children is theirs (parents), This site can help them to prioritize their family activities, to show interest in their children activities. "In many conflicts, commanders see children as cheap, compliant, and effective fighters." I have quoted this statement since I find it extremely shocking. It is unbearable that children still undergo this type of unjustice not to mention others that are part of our reality in the 21st century. Where are the infancy defender organizations? The EDSITEment is a great resource for instructors teaching culture, history, social studies etc.. For my human rights topic the website gives several ideas about freedom of speech including various activities (lesson plans) classes of all ages can do during Freedom of Speech Week, October 17-23. Some of the content/language may be too high for EFL/ESL setting. Their collection of lesson plans are worth looking at though for ideas.

This website help us as teachers to understand the rights of inmigrants when learning English as a second language because they have to be taught in a different way, due to their background and as English is not a first language for them. This article is related with job too, because inmigrants go to other places to learn a new language like English and have the opportunity to work in those places.

The NatGeo website presents many useful activities to make learning live and exciting apart from the great pictures that students love to look at. I am going to encourage my kids to accept one of the challenges for the Geogrphy Awareness. Would you suggest any other?

I am very interested in adopted and foster children. I believe every child has the human right to a safe and healthy home environment. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. This is a great website I found that helps teachers navigate with this sensitive human rights issue. It's a great resource for not only understanding how to approach adopted students, but also how to teach other children about the lives of those whom live with guardians that are not their parents.

Human Rights Watch is an independent organization dedicated to defending and protecting human rights- worldwide. They have the latest world news on various human rights issues. You can do a search by topic or world region. This site can be used to initiate class discussions via web 2.0 (or not) or to aid in research topics. It's probably most applicable for intermediate and beyond; adults and mature teens alike.
