      Great content. A Door in the Wall literary text supports organized learning network environments and is appropriate for the targeted audience of 6th graders. This unit integrated linkage design, UCG, community-community, participatory web, infoviz, and cc. The activities focus on network instructional strategies to enhance learning. The students are working together to understand the literary text and the elements of a plot. Web 2.0 tools utilized in this unit are blogging, Wordle, wiki discussions, and VoiceThread. They are integrated effectively and appropriately. These networked technologies will enhance learning by students "bouncing" ideas off one another. The rubric was great but only covered the content. Although content needs to be evaluated, so does the instructional strategies and technologies. Overall, great job Ashley!

      Yes, I think a survey would be the easiest way- that is what I did. Evaluating the strategies and technologies is difficult and the survey assessment seems to be the easiest way to measure the effectivness of the strategies and technologies.

      Content: Questioning Literary Text Technology: Voice Thread Instructional Strategies: Learner-Learner, Learner-Instructor, Collaboration Assessment: Rubric This unit relies heavily on collaboration between students to build knowledge. It also requires students to be reflective about what they have been reading. Students must also create a visual representation of the new knowledge they have gained.

      This unit does include UGC design to allow for shared knowledge among different groups of students. Students will create a Voice Thread with their own questions and responses about the story. This activity allows for learner-learner interaction which will be assessed with a rubric. This can be saved and shared for future classes. The Wordles created could also be used to share knowledge with future classes. The wordle is learner-content interaction and will also be assessed with a rubric.

      A specifically focused unit with effective technology integrations. I definately think this unit can be easily added to a sixth grade curriculum. Nice job!

    I liked that you had your goals layed out the way you did on a separate page but yet you also refer to them within the activities. The different web 2.0 tools that you use for students to learn from are beneficial and effective. I think students will learn a lot from your unit, especially with wordle!

Content: The content provided in the unit on literacy is appropriate for the targeted audience of sixth grad students. NLE Strategies: The unit uses multiple NLE instructional strategies include Community-Community Interaction, UCG, Infoviz, and Participatory web. NLE Technologies: The unit used multiple web 2.0 tools including blogging, wiki, wordle, and voicethread. Evaluations: The unit has a rubric but I could not find any other evaluation tool for content but this could be easily accommodated for with adding a few additional assessments. Additional Comments: Very nice unit! I can see this unit used with the sixth grade students at my school with a few adjustments.

      Great choice to use Wordle within your unit. I was not able to access the sample Wordle but I think this is a great integration for sixth grade students to use. The ability to create a Wordle is an effective visual strategy which is effective with learners of all ages.

      The three focused strategies of ONLE/PLE in my unit are social networking like Facebook, multimedia use including YouTube video sharing, and direct user generated strategies and user generated integrations involving the creation of accounts with iGoogle and Twitter. Using multimedia tools provides an unique approach to keep the learners engaged and active while improving interpersonal skills. Social networking provides multiple benefits specifically a learner-to-learner interaction promoting social communication engagement. UGC strategies connects the unit by providing the ability to utilize technology methods on a personalized approach to make the content of the unit even more helpful. The approach of the unit provides an introductory approach to various ONLE aspects and provides the creation of a personalized NLE by the end of the unit.

      With my unit, I integrated various UCG instructional strategies including discussion boards, wikis, and other social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. Students using my unit learn with content between other peer interaction as well as lesson instruction. This unit and accompanying lessons is to help them learn and navigate by using the technologies for themselves. This unit is more of an introductory course and would definitely lead to further courses for more advance integration exploration.

      Do you think that most teachers who would use this course are really ready for the intensity of the many applications you are asking them to explore here? (I am just remembering the overwhelming feeling of setting up all those new accounts for ETC677, and that was for a graduate level class, not just a staff development.)

      I think some are ready to proceed with the technology however of course there will be some hesitant for various reasons. But the target audience is in my opinion capable to learning these applications. Although I could be too overwhelmed with the applications and approach the lessons or with the 677 course for that matter - I knew what I was getting into and being able to learn at my own pace, be able to utilze tutorials, and have an open invitation to ask questions helps. Just because something is hard or difficult doesn't mean its avoidable. Technology integration is necessary in the classroom and the the audience targeted in this lesson would be wanting to learn best approaches, strategies, and tools.

    Overall I think this is a great unit for adults. However, some pages did not work for me. I like the fact that it was basic and right to the point so that professional learners could learn and didn't have to "dilly-dattle" if you will, with fluff to get to the important content of what they are there to learn.

      Textual layout wasn't what I had expected. "Unit Content Outline" section basically contains the course/unit (or syllabus). Font styles, sizes, and colors are different in places and were rather distracting. On one screen a sentence or two are unreadable (whited out). At first I thought it was done for emphasis but that didn't pan out. I noticed some grammatical and spelling errors. Overall, the unit is very comprehensive with both NLE technologies and instructional strategies to teach necessary concepts. I liked that a substitute lesson plan (an online crossword puzzle) was included.

      The content is very applicable to the targeted audience. Many options and areas for teachers to learn. Every teacher needs to know how to use at least one of the courses offered. Even if a teacher already knows how to use Word or PowerPoint, completing the course may teach them something they didn't already know. Many NLE strategies were used. Linkage Design, Community-Community Interaction, Agg, Mashup, RSS, and CC were all utilized in this unit. Constructivism was also integrated. Participants collaborate online together, and are autonomous. The flexibility of required assignments, assessments, and timeline is great for the "real world" but because participants are not required to post comments or blog entries, most probably will ignore these features, limiting the knowledge gained and the networking possibilities. They are adults though and can make decisions for themselves but without a nudge, they will be missing out. The networking technologies used in this unit include twitter, blogging, delicious, and RSS feeds. They are integrated appropriately, however, as mentioned above, a requirement to use these technologies would be more effective. I can see many participants going to this site, completing the tutorials, and never contributing to the NLE technologies. The evaluations need improvement. The rubrics were great but mainly measured the content only. Although content needs to be assessed, so do the instructional strategies and technologies.

      Hi Kelly Nightengale, I thought your "Instructor creates a podcast to deliver instruction on HIPAA" was a perfect example of an Expository strategy because it didn't integrate "active" and "interactive" levels of instructional strategies. Good job! Pat Agrait

      Ashley I like your idea about using wiki to create a scavenger hunt on the Great Depression. I've used wiki's in my class and really like the way pages can be developed for each student. I've used separate pages in order to differentiate the assignment for individual students.

      Amy I imagine that this not only could be adapted for upper elementary it may even work with lower elementary. For non readers you can upload how to videos and as far as evaluation maybe a performance eval. on photos they have taken
