For Sun Village and Littlerock, historic distrust persists - 0 views

  •
I thought this was an informative article because it tells people that even today there is still segregation going on. I thought it wasn't fair at all that Sun Village has never been treated equally with Littlerock because of racial differences between the two villages.

New Report Looking at Increase in School Segragation - 1 views

  •
It's long, it's important, and it's disturbing. We are seeing more and more segragation by race in the US. Brown vs. Board of Education was supposed to bring an end to that over 50 years ago, instead it seems as if this court ruling never happened.

'Speak English! This is America!' - 3 views

I was trying to look for stories on how people some English speakers in America get offended when people speak a foreign language, even if they aren't talking to them. I had an experience today where someone made a comment on how "rude" it was, and I was curious to know why. This is just an event that happened in 2006 that I found interesting. I hope to find more articles about this topic.

We do have Freedom of Speech in this country. So it is interesting that we feel like that speech must be in English, even when the speech is between people speaking to each other in private. It may go to insecurity. We are one of the only 1st world countries who is not multilingual. Most countries (1st world or not) are conversant in more than just one language.

California Woman Valeria Alvarado Fatally Shot by Border Patrol Agent - 0 views

This article is a very short article but I found it really interesting because it kind of goes along with the Border Patrol article that we just read. In the article it described how Border Patrol agents are trained to use lethal force and this news story puts that idea into plain view because no one truly knows what happened and if this was a case of racism or something else.

Nice Job Sarah--it also shows the continuing nature of the conversation on immigration--one that is at the forefront of politics in this election year.

The Surprising Food A Portland School Principal Has Deemed Racially Charged - 2 views

I thought this was kind of funny and shows the political correctness extremes in America.

To me this shows that the equity training was not done correctly and perhaps the "Corageous Conversations Program" needs some more work.

Why it Costs More to Adopt a White Baby - ABC News - 2 views

  •
It's amazing how your race affects you as soon as you are born. Here is a good article about adoption cost and why it costs more to adopt a white baby.

This is horrifying and would make a great research topic. I've seen a lot of things teaching this class, but never something like this.

ReducingStereotypeThreat.org - 0 views

This is a great souce that talks about something called STEREOTYPE THREAT. It is something that can apply to ANYONE: people of color, white people, males, females, the old, the young. But what it does is show how dangerous and damageing being sterotyped can be. I highly encourage looking at this and thinking about it as a possible research project.

Witness to Racism: What Would You Do? - 0 views

I liked this article because it shows what people would do in a situation where someone is being discriminated against. It's terrible that some people sided with the person who was discriminating, but it's also encouraging that more people stood up for the people being discriminated against.
