Fawcett, Hilary. "Fashioning The Second Wave: Issues across Generations." Studies in the Literary Imagination. March 1975-2010. Hilary Fawcett discusses fashion and how it effected women rights. The styles of the nineteen-seventies greatly influenced the women's rights movement. Fawcett also explores the connection between fashion to how women are percieved; she describes the fashion of her generation in the 1960s and 1970s, to the style and fashion of young girls now. This article will help me describe styles from the seventies and compare them to styles today. It will also help me explain the amount of respect clothing can give off to the public, when women are wearing different trends.

Kitwana, Bakari. The Hip Hop Generation: Young Blacks and the Crisis in African American Culture. New York: Basic Civitas, 2002. Print. This book talks about how rap has negatively influenced young black kids. I think that this book is very important because this is a bit of a problem in the black community and I think that it needs to be addressed. Although hip-hop has positive factors, it has a lot of negative factors that deal with not only blacks, but all races. This book discusses a lot of important issues, and I think it provides a lot of good information.

"Now & Then Great Fashion" People 7. October 2009: 103-104. This magazine article is an interview with many famous fashion designers, discussing the trends of the seventies and the trends of today. It discusses fashion worn by some of the first ladies in history, and then mentions today's first lady, Michelle Obama. This article will help me a lot because it has fashion designers opinions on different trends throughout generations.

This article might be useful for those seeking to do a study of the evolution of punk. From the OhioLINK abstract: This article examines how older fans of punk rock articulate their continuing attachment to the music and its associated visual style.While sociological research on popular music audiences is well established, little attention has been paid to the articulation and management of fan practices of individuals beyond the age of 30. Based on ethnographic interviews conducted with older punk fans in East Kent, England, the article begins to redress this oversight in studies of popular music audiences.This involves an assessment of both the way in which articulations of punk style transgress with age from the visual to the biographical and how older punks develop particular discursive practices as a means of legitimating their place within a scene dominated by younger punk fans.

Martin, R. Picasso's War: The Destruction of Guernica, and the Masterpiece That Changed the World. New York: Penguin Putman Inc., 2002. Print. The struggles that the people of Guernika and the people of Spain, in general, had to endure to see a masterpiece of their countries artwork be displayed in Spain is discussed. It took over four decades for Guernica to be on display in Madrid, Spain. The day that Guernica was brought to Madrid it was an emotional but proud day for Spaniards. Guernica depicted a horrible yet important time in their history that deserved to be housed proudly in Spain, and it finally was but not after years of hardship, several "no's", and struggles.

This article talks generalizes the music popular in the 1960s. The article references artists that made an impact on American music during a time of civil strife including: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin. The author notes that the Beatles defied the concept of what rock and roll should have been. There wasn't much to say about the Beatles but that they had a diverse sound that not many have heard before.

This article answers many questions many people may have about the Beatles and their coming to America from Liverpool, England. The article strongly supports the musicality of the Beatles, stating that it is far superior to any other musical band in America during the 1960s. The Beatles were truly superior because their music can be taken-in by people of all ages and across generations. The lyrics to the songs of the Beatles are more like poems that are touching, cleaver, meaningful. The key to the success of the Beatles, is that the band worked together not only to perform amazing music, but to also create it.

Beardsley, J. First Impressions: Pablo Picasso. New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc, 1991. Print. Beardsley discusses what cubism is and Picasso's partner in creating cubist works. Cubism uses geometric shapes to express an object. Picasso's partner in cubism was Georges Braque, they would create works together. In Chapter 8, Beardsley explains how the brutal bombing of a small Basque village in Spain by General Fransisco Franco was Picasso's inspiration for Guernica. Guernica is painted in a distorted fashion with many hidden images of that April day.

Welters, Linda. "The Natural Look: American Style in the 1970s." Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress, Body & Culture. 12:4 (2008): 489-510. This source focuses on the "look" identified on women in the nineteen seventies. Linda Welters, the author, describes the seventies appearance as natural. Welters divides the natural look into six catergories, "natural hair, natural body, natural cosmetics, natural materials, handcrafted clothing and accessories." I can use this article to compare and contrast how the natural look has continued into our generation, or how it has not. This source also gives good insight into trends seen with nineteen-seventies clothing.

EBSCO. Web. 19 Nov. 2010. This article really deals with the politics of hip-hop. It deals with how rap is growing and how it's only going to get bigger as time goes on. This article is very important because there are a lot of poilitics involved in hip-hop. This article deals a lot with the culture of hip-hop as well. I thnk that this is a very good article.

Mitchell, Tony. Global Noise: Rap and Hip-hop outside the USA. Middletown, CT: Wesleyan UP, 2001. Print.T his book describes how rap has grown in other countries other than the U.S. Most people don't think of rap as being something that is international, but it has grown to almost all of Europe and is even getting started in Asia. Rap is becoming the most popular type of music in the whole world and reading this book confirms that. Rap is huge and it's only going to get bigger as time moves on because soon the generation that listens to rap will become older and take up more of the population.

Uniquely situated at the heart of African-American youth culture, hip-hop is about music, style and voice. In many ways hip-hop is also about political action. Any discussion of hip-hop culture and rap music lends itself to examinations of rap as a means of protest among inner-city African-American youth. But the resistive benefits of rap music are not limited to its African-American listeners as can be seen by its widespread popularity among youth of all different races, classes and nationalities. As the cultural and political voice of an entire generation of youth, hip-hop has become a means of political action for its artists and fans. In addition to its prominent resistive role, political action in the hip-hop community includes political deliberation and direct uses of hip-hop to increase political awareness and to organize collaborative action. Stuckey, Charles F. "Claude Monet: Impressionism's leading light." USA Today Magazine 124.2606 (1995): 36. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 16 Nov. 2010. This article talks about the history of the Impressionism Movement and more specifically, Claude Monet. It goes on to describe the movements unique techniques and how it went from childish stokes to opening to realms of abstract painting. From there, it tells the readers of the many great acheivements Monet contribited to Impressionism and to art in general.

McGuigan, Cathleen and Ruth Tenenbaum. "All Dressed Up for The Youthquake." Newsweek. 20 March 2006. 61-63. Both authors discuss events that led to the major changed in fashion, especially during the '60s and '70s. They discuss that generally each decade has it's own sense of fashion, however, the styles from the '70s have "recycled" themselves throughout the decades. This article will help me further explain the '70s influence on today's styles.
