Okay, this article is from October 2011, however, I still think it brings up important questions about freedom of speech/expression on social networking sites.

i have hears of this before. they track what you like so when you are on other websites it shows you advertisements that interest you. its all about the advertisement.

Amanda, this was a great article! I never thought about even trying to map something like this! It reminds me of when the Packers lose, and my Facebook explodes; I'd like to see how those status updates change the further away you get from Green Bay, then Wisconsin, etc.

While I have not double checked all of the facts behind what this list claims, the information surprised me and helped me with a research idea. I hope this helps someone else if they're looking at social media and marketing!

This is an interesting article from the NY Times. It shows advertisements that actually favor paper over electronics and face-to-face interactions over "lol's". Also shows how companies are increasingly using words such as "like", "status update", and "friend request" in their ads.
