American Wasteland, a book written by Jonathan Bloom talks about the statistics of the food waste in America. This artice in particular gives us the option to look into even more statistics of how severe the food waste in America has become today. These numbers keep gradually increasing sending our whole stability on Earth out of line. The more food we waste the more food we expect to grow. However the harsh conditions we expect Earth to withstand are apalling; Not only the soil but the atmophere are at risk of causing serious damages to the future of life as we know it

This article gives a clear picture of just how much food we waste a day. It talks about how Americans fill a football stadium each day with the amount of food we waste and how that negatively effects the environment. It also touches on how we are a society that went from having many farmers and a greater appreciation for the work that went into growing the food to not knowing or caring where it came from and how much we waste.

Arizona is a good state to be considered a sustainable state. Becuase of the sun and how it provides power with solar engery. Arizona is in the best position and hits the brightest spot of the sun, that's why it's so bright here. Thus leading to a lot of solar pannels being put up.
  •
This site was a good pick because it has a lot of information which will help Arizona.

Less Food Waste at Parties - 0 views

  •  Decorating sugar cookies is one of the easiest ideas for parties with children
  • Instead of focusing on eating a big plate of food, the children are focused on decorating their cookies and licking the icing off their fingers.
  • Selecting treats people love in single-portion sizes and adding a few party games or music can make it easy to reduce waste
  •
Really interesting on how to take the kids attention. Its really smart to have small appetizers than big plates whit a lot of food that could be waste.

This was a interesting article changing the way indoor environment is seem like a weird way to do thing but the way it is explained seems like it helps. Like using the light self brightens the ceiling and also keeps less heat in the room by changing the direction of the glare.
  •
this article interested me because my mom is in the medical field and it discusses how places can be more Eco friendly and beneficial to the earth. This article brings up several ways that buildings can be more Eco by using lighting that self's adjust therefore using less energy and less heat because they wont be on 24/7.
  •
While reading this article I have realized many companies have been going the Eco- friendly route. On the way to work I saw the VA hospital have solar panels on the overheads in the parking lot. I also see a lot of churches installing solar panels.
  •
I love the comments made in this article. I agree with the author when she states that people have to look at the solar panels as part of the system on the building and not as something added on.

Feeling green guilt? Food waste is likely responsible - latimes.com - 0 views

  •
the fifth annual survey polled almost 1100 americans and found out that consumers also felt guilty about leaving the lights on when leaving a room and wasting water. But no one really thinks about wasting rations or food. Food costs more than electric does each month and no one really pays attention to it.

Zero Waste : A Realistic Sustainability Program for Schools - 2 views

  •
This article talks about a program that K-12th grade schools can implement through out their school. It gives examples on how this program has already been implemented and changed in schools. It also talks about how the program can be implemented in a school. This program is a great way to teach children and staff different ways to create a sustainable school.
  •
I think that is pretty cool that they have the kids get involoved as well, because like you said it is a great way to teach kids about sustainability and maybe some could even educate their parents. "However, most school districts don't have an award-winning nonprofit to implement a comprehensive Zero Waste program for them." (Schumper & Dietz). This comment made me think, are Zero Waste programs very exspensive if it is not through a non-profit group, and is that why other schoos do not implement this?
