Congressional Republicans voted on Thursday to make it more difficult for refugees from Syria and Iraq to come to the US as the fallout from last Friday's Isis terrorist attacks in Paris continues. In addition, more than half of the US's governors have said they will no longer provide placement for Syrian refugees, arguing that they pose too great a risk to national security.

This article looks at the gun control laws in other countries and the reasons why they developed those laws. IN 2012 the death of 20 children at a school in Newtown Connecticut caused an upraise in the debate on whether we should have a more strict gun control law or not. President Obama tried getting semi-automatics and military style weapons banned and having a more strict background check was defeated in the senate in 2013. Since the mass shootings in 2015 Obama is trying to rekindle the bill.

Author D B Kopel argues that gun control in countries like Great Britain, Australia, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, and Jamaica is not the reason for their low crime rate. In fact he states that their gun control law is the cause for more burglaries and that gun registration has been proven in these countries to be valueless in solving or preventing crimes.

A federal court of appeals denied Texas from enacting its voting rights law. This case is one of many to cut back on strict voting laws in Texas. Many say the law is discriminatory and then pro voter ID law people say that it has noting to do with minorities or poor people. They say that is all suggested by the people who just do not want the law. Texas has two options and they are to make changes to the previous law or go straight to the supreme court.

Focuses of the amount it would cost the government to completely get rid of Planned Parenthood. Many countries besides the U.S have Planned Parenthood clinics where there are no other option for women that cannot afford medical care to get the services they need.

The unwanted pregnancies and births that abolishing Planned Parenthood would bring, will only end up costing the government more in the long-run. This action would also take away an essential health care provider for women with no other options.

Defunding planned parenthood would end up costing the government more in the end. Since planned parenthood does more than just abortions through their organization it would cause health care for women aside from abortions to be taken away from them. Therefore that can present a huge problem in the future if that were to happen.

Many people see planned parenthood as an organization that has been taking money from the government to fund abortions among many other issues. It's thought that this shouldn't be the case because there are so many other health care services in the states that provide the same services as well as many more services too. The break down of some of the expenses show why continuing to fund planned parenthood would not be the best solution for the tax payers money.

Arizona has tried many things to stop illegal immigrants from coming into Arizona. Some of these things have included adding more police power by the borders, and building a wall. But what we really need to be looking at is stopping the illegal immigrants from getting what they want when they finally get into the United States because then they will stop coming in.

Civic leaders, activists, artists and others are celebrating, marching and paying homage Monday to Martin Luther King Jr., marking the 30th anniversary of the federal holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader. In South Carolina, civil rights leaders planned a march to their state capitol as in past years when their rally highlighted calls to remove the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds.

I'm really glad this symbol is being recognized and taken down in other states, especially those with discriminating acts recently taking place.

I think this is a great thing. Especially considering all of the racial issues we have been having lately through out the country I think this is a huge step in the right direction.

This is interesting, but I'm glad that this symbol is being recognized and frowned upon.

The House has voted to ban the display of Confederate flags at historic federal cemeteries in the deep South.

Gun violence has been a rising issue within the last few years, especially with the number of mass shootings. Most people think that mental health issues are what cause these incidents. But even professionals think that if all mental health problems were solved there would still be issues with gun violence.

In April, the Senate rejected the Toomey-Manchin gun control proposal. In the wake of its defeat many wonder why give this a chance to be passed. Trying to make every gun legal to buy wont be easy to do. Creating the right to purchase a firearm no short cuts. Make it difficult for people who do not have license to sell them on the streets.

Between the 9/11 terrorists attacks and Edward Snowden's whistle blowing, American's have been debating over whether it is against our constitution to collect massive amounts of data on our citizens through internet uses and phone calls, or it our country's security is more important.

Years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and two years after Edward Snowden's revelations about extensive U.S. government surveillance of phone and internet data, Americans have mixed and conflicting views about government surveillance programs. On the one hand, a majority of Americans oppose the government collecting bulk data on its citizens, others believe there aren't enough limits on what types of data can be collected.

Terrorism certainly created more fear in the west and Americans wanted to feel more safe. Even if it means sacrificing some personal freedoms so that the government catches the crimes before they happen. Recently, it's been seen that it has gotten out of control more than anticipated.

Since the choice to abort is one of the biggest reasons why people want to defund planned parenthood it is being looked at as more of a moral decision. The way democrats and republicans feel on this topic is completely different therefore has been making it harder to make the decision on it. Defunding planned parenthood for this reason would basically be taking away a women's right to choose.

I agree with your statement. It should ultimately be a women's choice and not let politicians decide a woman's decision. Everyone has a right to decide what is best for them without controversies and looking down at.

The new voting law requiring the presentation of a state issued ID before casting a vote is creating quite a controversy. The Democrats are relating this law to Jim Crow. This law should not a very big issue if your a US citizen. If you do not have an ID you cannot contribute very much to our country because almost every job would require to see an ID.

congress voted another time to take away funds to planned parenthood. Reimbursing members and abortion included in the plan are big reasons why.

Planned Parenthood is once again being voted on whether to stay funded or to be defunded. The house of reps is expected to pass a bill that will about 450 million out of planned parenthood. The Govt. has not funded the abortion side of planned parenthood since 1976, so some Democrats criticize them.

Thee anti-discrimination laws intertwine with religious liberties. There are many things that people do in a day to day basis that they can be discriminated on whether it is getting a wedding cake or going out to eat where they can be denied. Yet it has also opened a wide range of possibilities for those who were being discriminated on to go other places for their choices.
