Rich must pay more taxes, Obama tells voters - 5 views

  •
A day after demanding Washington lawmakers extend middle-class tax cuts while raising taxes on the wealthy, President Obama took his case directly to voters Tuesday, traveling to Iowa to argue that the rich should pay higher taxes in order to cut the deficit and fund his spending priorities.
  •
This article says that 98 percent of Americans want the tax hike, where as the 2 percent it will effect does not. This 98 percent number is outrageous, especially if they are adding me into the mix. It also brings up that the small businesses that we are trying to support are the most effected by the tax hike.

Administration announces new gun control measures, targets military surplus imports - 0 views

  •
This article discusses new gun control measures that have been signed into effect. It discusses the delay in legislation approval by Congress and President Obama taking action to get measures I place. Opinions of the NRA and other sources are provided.
  •
I feel a lot of deja vu reading this article. It's the same old song and dance and none of them have learned that as United States citizens, we like our guns; and we will not be separated from them. Criminals do not follow laws, more gun control is useless without reinforcing the statutes already in place.

Immigration and what may happen - 0 views

  •
I love the New York Times, again this article is very imformative, it give information on illegal immigration. Somethings the article talks about is Mexican Immigration has declined, and if a illegal is caught speeding should they deported and a little bit about the background of illegal immigration.
  •
The New Times really points out some great facts in this article. They show that immigration is a important issue that is going on with the U.S. today. It also shows how different things can be for immigrants depending on who is the new elected president. While Mitt Romney is taking the side that may be harder on illegal immigrants, Obama seems to welcoming people to run across the boarder. Michal Czerwonka for The New York Times may be more of a photographer than a writer but he really did a great job showing both sides views.

Obama wins back the right to indefinitely detain under NDAA - 2 views

  •
This article explains what the NDAA legislation is all about. Explaining that the president can in fact detain anyone accused of terrorism or terrorism affiliation with out due process.
  • ...1 more comment...

I don't think the majority will really have a problem with this. If your affiliating yourself with terrorist, yea you should be worried.
  •
The problem with legislature like this is the government will have permission to detain anyone without actual proof. Your cousin Steve could be locked up and there's nothing you can do about it. Not everyone accused of a crime is guilty, and under the NDAA, it won't matter. Guilty or innocent, you can be detained. Not only is this a violation of your Constitutional rights, it's one step close to Fascism.
  •
I agree with Erika. It's a slippery slope. The government can define a terrorist as an extreme Muslin organization today and the Tea Party tomorrow.

  •
This article looks at the gun control laws in other countries and the reasons why they developed those laws. IN 2012 the death of 20 children at a school in Newtown Connecticut caused an upraise in the debate on whether we should have a more strict gun control law or not. President Obama tried getting semi-automatics and military style weapons banned and having a more strict background check was defeated in the senate in 2013. Since the mass shootings in 2015 Obama is trying to rekindle the bill.
