Screen Tutorials in Technical Learning - 0 views

  •
In technical subjects, learners respond well and benefit from the inclusion of imagery and video. How Do I Make a Good Screencast? In technical subjects, learners respond well and benefit from the inclusion of imagery and video. It seems obvious that our preferences in consuming information are changing rapidly today and rely less on textual comprehensiveness and more on brevity and reliance on conceptual images, both static and moving. This may be a driving factor in the new face of e-learning in the 2010s or it may be an effect of learner preferences. Either way, it is imperative designers and developers of technical content at least be aware of these trends and be prepared to accommodate the way learners most effectively consume their material. Declare the war on bad Webinars - 0 views

Tell me the truth. How many times have you attend a pathetic, poor, bad, awful, boring, stupid, and wasteful crappy Webinar? How many times have you attend a Webinar where the walking dead hang out in cyber space, where the talking-head with the PowerPoint presentation puts you in his/her digital misery. Would you like to captivate the audience through eloquent delivery and beautiful design? Would you like to push the limits of technology? Would you like to transform your Webinar design and delivery? Of course you want and that requires ACTION!

Learning Technology is Grossly Overrated - 0 views

  •
In a world where technology rules the day, the question should not be whether or not it is necessary, but if it is effective. In a world where technology rules the day, the question should not be whether or not it is necessary, but if it is effective. I am, and always have been, a harbinger of utilizing technology for learning initiatives. However, I am also wary of how quickly new technology is deemed the "best thing ever", particularly when it comes to training programs.

Pile on the learning, easy on the technology - 1 views

  •
Are your employees actually learning from technology-based training programs? Much has been written about the technology of training. The story-line is often the same: companies are champing at the bit for the opportunity to exercise the latest training technologies in an effort to reach employees effectively while reducing costs. This trend is understandable. Technology has made training much more convenient, an essential factor for global enterprises that need to train employees across the world. Instead of supersizing the travel budget to bring employees to the home office or other training center, technology can help trim their bottom line by pushing training out into the regional offices. But are their employees better trained as a result of this technological boom? With companies fast abandoning traditional instructor-lead training in favor of tech-based training, it is increasingly important to ensure that technology remains the training messenger rather than becoming the message.

Exploring the layers of social learning - 0 views

  •
Exploring the layers of social learning by Julian Stodd We used to live in two worlds: the workplace, which was a formal and restricted environment, typified by moderated messages and codified behaviours that fitted within defined parameters of 'acceptable', and then the social world, which was unrestricted and expressive, ranging from conversations in the pub to heated debates about politics, religion and which cocktail to order next. These worlds were separate, colliding only at moments of misjudged intra-office relationships and the alcohol-fuelled miscommunication of the office Christmas party. But no more. The world has changed under us and there is no formal and social divide. We inhabit a grey space of 'social', where people answer office emails from the bath and use Facebook in meetings. That photograph of the holiday in Ibiza will haunt you in your next job interview and the post about how much you hate your boss has just gone global thanks to a misjudged retweet. But what does social mean for learning? How can we tune into the levels of engagement that we see, how can we enrich for formal learning experience? How can we add a meaningful social layer around our work?
