I am preparing a presentation on the future of e-learning for HE education. Any suggestions on best technologies? What do you think will be here in 5 years and has a good pedagogical basis? A polticial question - does everyone wish that others have an improved learning experience? Education is an economic, job unemployment, citizen compliance, conformance, etc. issue. Having left my soapbox of babble - I would like to see a visual, immersive board that is haptic and responsive to my learning whims. My learning world will change as I touch a topic, reference, picture, sound, etc - that may all be related or not.I would like to become a hologram sitting in a virtual environment listening and seeing Homer with discussions going on with many others who debate him on his philosophy as it pertains to us today. Dreaming is OK with me.

A virtual learning environment is a medium of learning where learners go through courses, study materials and learning aids through an online medium. Simulations for Fun and Profit by David A. Mallette, Instructional Systems Technologist NOTE: The video and simulation both require Flash and adequate bandwidth. As mentioned here, we have discontinued web distribution of our training in favor of local launch, server authenticated systems of our own design due to bandwidth and latency issues on the Internet that are not likely to be resolved for a long time. The video is compressed enough for 500kpbs or so throughput and the simulation will run in less. By the mid 90s, simulation was the place to be for those on the cutting edge of technical training. A variety of raster-based, multi-tasking computer platforms were available that could provide real-time, free-play simulations of complex machines. Whoops. I've probably lost a bunch of you right there at "raster." I'll explain.
