  • in the last years of Mubarak, a younger generation of doctors started to organise in rank and file militant groups such as Doctors Without Rights (DWR) outside of the Syndicate’s internal body, against both Mubarak’s regime and the Brotherhood’s conservative union policies. In the aftermath of the January 25 revolution, these radical doctors, many of whom actually took part in the uprising against the dictator and were emboldened by their success in ousting him, embarked on organising their co-workers for campaigns to take workplace actions and strikes to improve their conditions.

In fact, a large number of those who supported Independence and Tahrir candidates also voted for Khairy Abdel Dayem to head the Syndicate. Indeed, Dr Mona Mina herself supported Abdel Dayem for syndicate president. A closer look at Abdel Dayem’s campaign literature and interviews to media actually showed that he pushed economic demands and healthcare reform proposals almost identical to those raised by the Independence and Tahrir lists.

    حقق عمال مطاحن جنوب القاهرة انتصاراً، أمس، بعد اعتصام دام يومين، وقرر رئيس مجلس الإدارة رفع حافز الإنتاج من 24 إلي 48%، وإقرار ترقيات العمال المستحقين للترقية، وانتصر عمال مشروع صندوق التأمين علي الماشية في النوبارية بعد اعتصام ثلاثة أيام، حيث وقع مدير عام الصندوق ووفد من اللجنة النقابية اتفاقاً يقضي بإقرار هيكل وظيفي وإداري للمشروع واستبعاد فكرة تصفيته وتسريح العمال ومساواتهم مالياً بالعاملين في الإدارة المركزية. وواصل عمال في شركات ومصانع، إضافة إلي أزهريين إضراباتهم واعتصاماتهم في 4 محافظات، أمس، ففي حلوان، دخل إضراب عمال الشركة المصرية للمعدات التليفونية يومه الثالث احتجاجاً علي عدم انعقاد الجمعية العمومية، وعدم توزيع الأرباح عليهم. وقال عامل، رفض ذكر اسمه، لـ«البديل»: «مالك الشركة، الأردني الجنسية، يستورد خامات لثلاث شركات أخري مملوكة له باسم الشركة التي نعمل بها للاستفادة من الإعفاء الضريبي الخاص بها ويحمل هذه المشتريات علي ميزانيتها مما يؤدي إلي تحقيق خسائر وهمية». وفي المنصورة، واصل عمال شركة «المنصورة - إسبانيا» إضرابهم عن العمل لليوم الثالث عشر علي التوالي، وأحالت الإدارة 15 عاملة إلي التحقيق بتهم الامتناع عن العمل. وفي الإسماعيلية، استمر إضراب عمال الشركة العربية للأ
