  • The mass strikes of September 2011 paralysed the government and the military council and opened up the road to the crisis of November. The independent unions and strike committees which led these strikes are part of what is now probably the biggest social movement in Egypt (with the possible exception of the Muslim Brotherhood), and certainly the biggest organised movement with real roots in the everyday struggles of the poor
  • Will organised workers move into the leadership of the mass revolutionary movement? This article argues that two conditions for this happening have already been met: the workers’ movement has begun to gain enough mastery over its constituent parts to be able to use its social power in battle with the state, while the demands that are now being raised by this movement cannot be satisfied within the limits of neoliberal capitalism in the context of intensifying economic crisis at a local and global level.

    «الاشتراكيون الثوريون» يساريون متشددون يملكون شجاعة التصادم مع السلطة في أعقاب انهيار الاتحاد السوفيتي في بداية تسعينيات القرن الماضي ومرور اليسار المصري بأزمة عنيفة بسبب انهيار الدولة الأم والنموذج، كان لمجموعة من الشباب رأي آخر ينطوي علي أن الاتحاد السوفيتي لم يكن دولة اشتراكية بالمعني النظري الدقيق لـ «المصطلح»، ولكنها تطبق ما أطلقوا عليه «رأسمالية الدولة»، واتجه هؤلاء لتأسيس فصيل يساري جديد رفع شعارات أكثر راديكالية.. وظهر تيار «الاشتراكيون الثوريون» يقول كمال خليل القيادي في هذا الفصيل: تأسس تيارنا علي يد شباب آمنوا بالأفكار الشيوعية وامتلكوا الحماس والبوصلة القادرة علي توجيههم الاتجاه الصحيح.. وأنا شخصياً انضممت إليهم بعد أن وجدت لديهم إجابات لأسئلة شغلت ذهني ولم أجد إجاباتها لدي الفصائل الأخري. بدأ هؤلاء الشباب نشاطهم بقوة، وشاركوا في إضراب عمال كفر الدوار عام ١٩٩٥، مما لفت الأنظار إليهم، وتقدموا للأمام خطوة أخري بتأسيس مركز الدراسات الاشتراكية كواجهة قانونية للتيار. وبدأ المركز في إصدار مجموعة من المطبوعات الدعائية والفكرية التي شملت ترجمة الأدبيات الماركسية، وبالفعل حقق «الاشتراكيون الثوريون» انتشاراً كبيراً بين العمال وكان لهم دور في انتخابات النقابات العمالية
